Nixon watches were founded in 1997 in Encinitas, California by Andy Laats and Chad DiNenna who spotted a niche in the action sports watch market. This was first apparent when Chad DiNenna was looking for watch which fulfilled his personal needs and function ability yet could not find any design that matched his requirements. Andy Laats was a friend and mechanical engineer and together the pair brainstormed a rough idea of what their ideal watch would be, raised $1 million and proceeded to make the collection of dream watches themselves. The Nixon brand like many successful companies of today, started small, but now has an average annual sales growth of 55 percent and have shops in 25 countries and the two founders are highly regarded for their design and entrepreneurial skills Nixon watches are geared towards the extreme sports industry and are thus highly popular among professional surfers, skate and snow boarders who favour and appreciate the cool aesthetic style and versatility of Nixon watches.
