The Ingersoll brand was founded in 1892 in America by brothers Robert and Charles Ingersoll and the company is now one of the oldest American watch manufacturers famous for its superb range of pocket watches and wrist watches. This value stems back to when the brand began when the Ingersoll brothers decided to create the 1 dollar watch which was noted for its superb function in relation to its seemingly too good to be true cost. Needless to say, the 1 dollar watch was incredibly popular and the Ingersoll brothers were forced to dramatically increase production. The secret behind being able to make the watches cheaper was that instead of a jewel being used as a bearing, a hole was drilled directly into the pocket watch plate and a pin attached to the gear sat inside the hole. This was a simple but effective way to reduce production costs and make the watches affordable for the everyday person. Today Ingersoll watches still maintain the theme of combining high quality with affordability and there are a wide variety of Ingersoll watch collections to choose from. The type of movements vary according to each collection but one common aesthetic and functional feature throughout the range is that the watches have visible windows on the dial through which you can see the intricate movements of the interior functions. Ingersoll watches also feature either leather or stainless steel straps and added modern functions such as dual time displays, sub second dials, date windows and chronograph. The watches are notably traditional from a style perspective but have wonderful contemporary injections such as sleek straps and bold, striking and intricately detailed dials.
