Augmented Eyewear

Augmented Reality (AR) sounds like a term straight from a sci-fi movie as how this technology influences our lives remains unclear to many.

Google, Oakley, Samsung, Sony, Oculus VR, DAQRI, NVDIA/UNC and Skully each provide us with their version of the answer as to how their latest high tech augmented eyewear can be both innovative and edgy.

Augmented Reality (AR) is currently available in various state-of-the-art top end eyewear sporting positively futuristic looks with some coming in the shape of a helmet while others assuming a more predictable look similar to ordinary glasses.

Each of the brands also attempts to answer the question of why we need Augmented Reality. For example, Samsung and Sony make the glasses an extension of smart phones with Oakley’s Airwave allowing the wearer to take calls and texts directly. Others seek to improve gaming experiences with 3D virtual reality imaging and high resolution displays. Last but not least, comes an insight from the manufacturer Skully as they foresee the need for AR among motorcycle riders when their hands are busy holding the handle bars.

Maybe Ray Ban Sunglasses will come up with an AR solution in the future?

The following infographic shows a rendition of each of the Augmented Reality (AR) products from the above mentioned brands.
