G-Shock watches, manufactured by Casio are specifically designed for men, and are renowned for their extreme durability and ability to endure strong impact. The bulky and chunky in aesthetic G-Shock watches boast the latest technologies and continue to move a step beyond the conventional way of thinking about the everyday watch.

Casio is a perfect example of a brand that embodies innovation and invention. It is also a watch company that didn’t begin with watches as its focal product, yet today the brand is responsible for creating some of the most technically advanced watches in the industry alongside some of the most stylish ones which has led to Casio becoming a firm favourite in the fashion industry and on the style scene.

A man named Kashio Todao founded the Casio back in 1946 and the company was originally named Kashio Seisakujo. The brand’s first product was a ring mounted cigarette holder which was launched quickly after the brand was founded and was very successful. Wanting to build upon his initial success with this first product, Todao then joined forces with his brothers and set about designing and manufacturing the world’s first electronic calculator in 1949.

A great deal of research, time and development was invested into creating the electronic calculator and it took eight years for the brothers to be completely happy with their product. They began marketing the calculator in 1957, which was named the Casio 14-A. The calculator was extremely innovative and like nothing the world had seen before. Ultimately, it was the first electronic calculator with the defining features being a ten-digit keypad, and the first to display the numbers on one screen.

The electronic calculator was highly successful in Japan and over the next decade, further innovative products led to the brand becoming a world renowned company. By this time, the company name had changed to Casio and in 1964 the company developed Japan’s first desktop calculator which was launched in the United States, Canada and Europe. In 1972 Casio released the first scientific calculator and the first personal hand held model.

It was in 1974 that Casio wanted to expand on their product lines in order to branch out and also to maximise their profits. This is when they embarked on designing and manufacturing watches. The first Casio watch was named the Casiotron Electronic wrist watch and in 1983 Casio was responsible for launching the first shock resistant G-Shock watch for men; a watch that was designed to endure the most extreme of impacts.

The creation of G-Shock watches actually came about as a result of a mission named ‘Project Tough’. The project was used as a way to create the world’s toughest and most durable watch and the design and testing process involved throwing prototypes out of a high window to see which one would remain intact and still fully functional. The watch that achieved the best results was further developed and was then named G-Shock. It was able to withstand the benchmark of ‘Triple Ten’ criteria; 10 years of usage, 10 atmospheres and a 10m fall. Today, G-Shock watches move beyond this benchmark, featuring 200m water resistances, a higher level of shock resistance and an array of technological advances such as Tough Solar Power and Atomic Timekeeping.

The recent collections of G-Shock watches in addition to the features named above, have also incorporated some more luxurious aesthetic designs, helping G-Shock watches to become a prominent brand on the style scene. Casio launches new designs within the G-Shock range twice every year and there are a number of G-Shock watches to suit a variety of aesthetic or functional preferences.

Different collections are also developed for varied requirements such as skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. Due to their highly respected reputation, G-Shock watches have become collector’s item as some styles are released as limited edition making them more sought-after and exclusive.

Many of the new G-Shock watches still retain their classic aggressive and bulky aesthetics but with contemporary twists such as bursts of colour including blue, yellow, white. The digital dials in some models also include vibrant colour, making each G-Shock watch a stylish statement accessory.

G-Shock watches are the perfect option for people who enjoy taking part in sports and require a variety of functions in a watch to assist and maximise their performance. Built to look rugged and with the ability to endure every sporting activity and expedition, it’s also an advantage that they come with affordable price tags whilst looking cool, statement and stylish!
