Lens

There are two main types of lenses that are available:

Single Vision (SV) Bifocals (BF)

Single Vision lenses are the lens types that the majority of our customers order. They are made to your prescription and are made for customers who are short sighted or long sighted - select DISTANCE LENSES. For those who need glasses for close work i.e. reading select READING LENSES. For VDU use please select INTERMEDIATE LENSES.

Bifocal Lenses are for individuals who require two powers in their lenses.

Bifocal lenses should only be ordered if tour Optician recommends you do so. SpeckyFourEyes® recommends that you ask your Optician to make out a prescription for your glasses assuming that they are worn 12-13mm from the eye (the BVD or Back Vertex Distance).

Thin lenses - also known as High Index Lenses have thinner edges compared to the same prescription made from standard lenses. They are lighter in weight as they require less material.

High Index Lenses are recommended by Shade Station for individuals who have a high prescription - as the lenses are more aesthetically appealing.

The are also recommended if you would like a rimless frame as they provide superior strength.

A 1.67 index lens is approximately 40% thinner than a standard index lens. Thin lenses from Shade Station come with an anti-reflective coating on all thin high index lenses as they reflect more light than standard lenses.

This lens coating helps protect against glare and surface reflections. The coating also improves appearance as it makes your eyes more visible.

Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance between the centre of your pupils.

This is required so that the centre of the lens is in line with the centre of your eye which will give you optimum vision in your prescription glasses.
