The very first Ted Baker shop was opened by managing director Ray Kelvin in 1988 in Glasgow and was primarily a small label which exclusively provided clothing for men including dress shirts and had the added quirk of offering a dry cleaning service with every shirt sold. Ray only had limited funds however and thus did not have the option on relying on advertising and marketing campaigns to really put the brand out there and gain quick recognition. It is therefore incredible that today, Ted Baker has progressed to become an international and iconic brand and this is solely due to word of mouth in the early days which helped to raise the brand’s status and portray it as a highly creative brand whereby the personality and style of the clothing spoke for themselves. Ted Baker rapidly grew more successful as a brand and began extending its lines to women’s clothing, shoes and accessories including the superb range of Ted Baker watches. Two years after the Glasgow store opened, a further one was opened in Covent Garden and also in Soho, Nottingham and Leeds in 1994. Unfortunately the innovative dry cleaning service could no longer continue but the brand was renowned for being quirky, ahead of the trend, and popular for conveying strong personality within its collections. Like the clothing the range of Ted Baker watches which consists of styles exclusively for men and women have innovative design detail and quirky features typical of the brand. The ladies watches are feminine with pretty, girly additions such as floral designs but retain an element of trendy and edgy style.
