The Marc Ecko Empire was founded out of passion, inspiration and intense ambition. Ecko was at University in 1993 when he decided to pursue his passion in urban art, design and fashion rather than to continue his degree in pharmacology. Staring small, Ecko began creating images to print on t-shirts and sold locally to friends until he has enough funds to take the label to the next level and retail in the shops of Manhattan. As a young designer, retailers were apprehensive of his experience but the t-shirts were extremely popular. The brand was about to rapidly expand and become a huge success worldwide.
Marc Ecko now comprises of a whole range of clothing and accessories, many of which incorporate the famous Rhino logo. The reason behind the use of a Rhino is that Ecko's father collected rhino figurines when he was a child and also Ecko believes the spirit of the animal is determined, restless and a little awkward, like the company.
