Casio has always being a brand renowned for its electronic based products but for a long duration of time during its growth and expansion, didn’t actually manufacture watches. Casio Electronics was in fact, primarily known for its collection of calculators. The Casio brand was founded in 1946 by Kashio Todao. Originally named Kashio Seisakujo, in 1949 Todao, and his brothers embarked on designing an electronic calculator. Eight years later, the brothers marketed their first electronic product which was the Casio 14-A calculator; an exceptionally innovative and advanced product for its time as was the world’s first all-electric calculator. This first product lead to Casio becoming a huge success in Japan and the Casio calculators continued to improve and develop. In 1972, they released the first scientific calculator, and the first personal hand held calculator. In 1974 Casio wanted to extend its product range to increase profits. This was when watches were introduced to the line and the Casiotron Electronic wrist watch was born. From then on, the Casio watch collection has grown and developed, with the company manufacturing a number of different types of watches within the Casio brand. Casio was one of the first companies to produce watches with quartz movement and a digital display and the collection of Casio watches includes a variety of styles and options ranging from aesthetically striking and highly on-trend to fully functional and designed to carry out specific tasks.
