The Asics brand was founded in 1977 by Kihachiro Onitsuka. Asics began as an athletic footwear company whereby Onitsuka manufactured basketball shoes from his living room in Kobe, Japan. The name Asics derives from a renowned Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano", which when translated into English means "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body."
