ReviewStation: Oakley Obsessed Sunglasses

January 22, 2013
Posted by Dan

Oakley-Obsessed-1The Oakley Obsessed Sunglasses are a brand new women’s pair which are due for release in early 2013. Oakley Sunglasses have always strived to have a vast and impressive women’s sunglass range, and with the release of the Oakley Obsessed Sunglasses, they are very much on their way to achieving this goal. There is a huge selection of colours in this new style, ranging from Cherry Red to Chocolate Sin, you are bound to find something that will suit you! Beautifully defined lines and a fashion focussed image make them an amazing addition to any outfit, all whilst keeping your eyes safe and sound from those harmful UV rays. Also including an appearance from the much missed ‘glitter’ style frames, they are going to be a hit amongst fashionistas around the world.

Let’s start by taking a look at the frames; they are made from Oakley’s patented O Matter plastic compound which is impact resistant to the same standards as industrial strength eyewear to make sure that if anything hits them, your eyes will stay 100% unscathed! Designed to be flexible, yet incredibly durable they will sit comfortably on your face on a day to day basis utilising Oakley’s ‘Three-Point-Fit’ system; this ensures that they will only contact your face in three areas and will therefore fit the vast majority of head shapes and sizes. Unobtanium nosepads mean that the Obsessed sunglasses will stay on your face even if you sweat or they become wet by adhering to your nose rather than slipping and on top of all of this, Oakley have added beautiful temple designs which offset the flowing lines and tapered earstems for the perfect women’s sunglass look!

Undoubtedly, Oakley’s lenses are the best in the world and the Oakley Obsessed Sunglasses contain their patented plutonite lens material which is 100% optically correct and will amend any refraction of light through the lenses. This is known as HD and XYZ optics; technology which is exclusive to Oakley and will stop any of those annoying sunglass headaches or eye strain that you may get from cheaper brands. Oakley’s plutonite lenses are also completely UVA, UVB and UVC protective and unlike other sunglasses, this is actually built into the lens material meaning that if they become chipped or scratched in any way, your eyes will still be kept away from the harmful sunlight. Welcome to the latest edition of ReviewStation, our in depth look at the new 2013 Oakley Sunglasses releases. In this blog we are going to inspect the Oakley Given Sunglasses; another fantastic women’s piece to come out of the foothills ranch this season. The Oakley Given Sunglasses are undoubtedly some of the best looking sunglasses to come from Oakley’s ladies range in the past few years and utilising the classic teardrop or ‘Aviator’ lens shape, they are set to be very popular this year. Oakley like to combine their amazing innovations and technology with delicate, feminine styling and the Oakley Given Sunglasses marry these two things perfectly.

Lets start by taking a look at the frame; made from Oakley’s C-5 Metal Alloy compound they are strong and durable for everyday use whilst being light and comfortable to wear. This is all thanks to Oakley’s patented ‘three-point fit’ system which ensures the sunglasses will only contact your face in three areas; above your ears and on your nose. Not only will this provide the user will hour round comfort, but will allow them to fit the vast majority of head shapes and sizes. Oakley are aware that fashion is very important to most women and therefore they have designed the frames in a variety of colour combinations so that there is something for everyone.

Lenses are incredibly important when it comes to sunglasses, not only are they there to avoid your eyes from straining, but they are also there to protect them from the sun. Oakley lenses have to be some of the best in the world and this is all down to their amazing Plutonite lens material; injected into moulds at high temperatures, the plutonite is tapered out towards the edge meaning that no light is ever going to distort coming through the lenses. This kind of clarity is called HD Optics and in combination with XYZ Optics (technology behind cutting out distortion) you will have lenses which are 100% optically correct. Oakley’s plutonite lenses are also completely UVA, UVB and UVC protective so that your eyes will be safe and sound at all times what ever you are planning to do in your sunglasses!

ReviewStation: Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses

January 14, 2013
Posted by Dan

With the turn of the year, Oakley Sunglasses have released a whole plethora of new models to fit into their ‘Lifestyle’ range and undoubtedly one of the stand out pairs has to be the Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses. Based heavily around the Oakley Big Taco Sunglasses (one of the biggest Oakley releases of 2012), the Oakley Offshoots add a whole new dimension to what is surely going to be a future classic. A large frame, fantastic innovative technology and unrivalled lens quality has elevated the Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses to near stardom before it has even been put on general release. In this exclusive ReviewStation blog, we are going to look at the Offshoots in detail and provide you with everything you need to know before you buy.

Let’s start by taking a look at the frame; made from Oakley’s patented O Matter compound, it is a revolution in sunglass and eyewear technology which has seen Oakley excel above and beyond their closest competitors. O Matter is a polycarbonate mixture which has a different molecular make up to regular acetate, it is this microscopic change which gives O Matter the noticeable advantage over others. Designed to be incredibly flexible yet durable, the Oakley Offshoot sunglasses are tested to the same standards as industrial protective eyewear and will keep your eyes safe and sound should anything hit you in the face, providing the user with peace of mind whatever the sunglasses are being used for. Oakley have added multi-toned and textured temple designs for the fashion minded and the range of colours the Offshoots come in will surely please even the fussiest of people out there! To complete these already amazing frames, they have been made with Oakley’s patented ‘Three-Point-Fit’ system which ensures the sunglasses will only contact your head in three places; above your ears and on the bridge of your nose meaning that they will fit the vast majority of head sizes and shapes.

Unlike it’s predecessor, the Big Taco, the Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses have a shield lens which extends to almost the full width of the frame providing the user with a wide field of sight and fantastic clarity of vision. The clarity of the lens is down to the Plutonite polycarbonate compound which Oakley make their lenses from and the uncompromisingly exact standards to which they manufacture these lenses. Oakley complete all of their Plutonite lenses with HD and XYZ Optics to ensure no refraction of light occurs as it passes through the lens; this eliminates annoying sunglass headaches and eye strain. Plutonite, along with 600 other Oakley technologies, are protected by patents so you can be sure that you will be receiving the best lenses in the world, lenses which are 100% UVA, UVB and UVC protective.  As any Oakley sunglass owner will tell you, the aesthetics of the lenses are just as important as the technology put in them and therefore Oakley have made the Offshoot sunglasses with a vast range of lens colours and styles, adding Iridium coatings and Polarised filters to select models.

As we have exclusive and very early access to these sunglasses we have included an extensive video review of the amazing Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses for your viewing entertainment below. Please take a look and let us know what you think in the comments below!

In this blog we are going to take a closer look at the Oakley Plaintiff Squared Sunglasses, a new 2013 release from Oakley which combines a classic stalwart sunglass with new cutting edge design. What appears to be a hybrid between Oakley Plaintiff Sunglasses and their squared off masterpiece, the Oakley Deviation Sunglasses, the Plaintiff Squared has already created a stir in the industry with people vying for as much information as possible. Luckily you have come to the right place! We have exclusive early access to this amazing range and we are going to be sharing it with you; along with video footage, an in depth video review and the ability to pre-order these for immediate shipping when they arrive in stock.

Let’s start by breaking the frame down piece by piece. The frame itself is made from Oakley’s C-5 Metal Alloy compound, a lightweight material which will sit comfortably on your face all day and the cushioned nose pieces are adjustable for added stability. Oakley’s patented ‘Three Point Fit” system is an innovation which ensures the frame will only contact your face in three places; above your ears and on your nose which ensures that they will fit the vast majority of head sizes and shapes whilst still keeping their original contour. The Oakley Plaintiff Squared Sunglasses have an 8.75 base lens/frame curvature which wraps around your face more than a regular ‘Aviator’ style sunglass, giving you a more stylish look and protecting your eyes up to the periphery of your vision. They are also engineered with Mono-Shock Hinges; made from titanium these hinges keep up Oakley’s already high standard of impact protection and give you that extra peace of mind when you are wearing them.

All of this frame technology is undoubtedly amazing, however Oakley’s ‘pièce de résistance’ has to be their lenses. Made from Oakley’s patented polycarbonate compound Plutonite, these lenses are simply unrivaled in the sunglass world. Unlike the vast majority of other lenses, Plutonite itself is 100% UVA, UVB and UVC protective which means that even if they are scratched, dropped or chipped the lenses will still completely protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. If you like your Oakley Sunglasses then I’m sure you will have heard the term ‘HDO’ before; this stands for HD Optics which Oakley use in their lenses to provide complete clarity of vision right up to the periphery of your sight. This term encompasses Oakley’s (also patented) XYZ Optics, an amazing innovation which tapers each lens from the middle out to the edges of the sunglass and will correct any refraction of light as it passes through the lens. Anyone who has ever bought cheaper sunglasses will be well aware of those annoying sunglass headaches you get after a prolonged period of wearing them, and it is the XYZ optics that completely cuts these out!

All in all, the Oakley Plaintiff Squared Sunglasses are set to be a big hitter in 2013 and it is safe to say that the stock is going to fly off the cyber shelves! Make sure to pre-order yours today to avoid disappointment. Feel free to take a look at the in depth video review below and leave us a comment.

A Closer Look: New Oakley Sunglasses 2013

January 3, 2013
Posted by Dan

A new year brings a brand new range of Oakley Sunglasses and what a year it is lining up to be already! Combinations of classic revamps and awesome new styles make for a season to remember for Oakley and here at Shade Station we like to ensure that you get the inside scoop before anyone else. Oakley are always pushing the boundaries and taking their sunglasses ‘Beyond Reason’, however there are a couple of models in this range which go above and beyond even this; styles such as Plaintiff Squared, Offshoot, Jupiter Factory Lite and News Flash are all thrown into the spotlight while new ladies sunglasses such as Given, Obsessed and LBD support the already innovative and expansive women’s collection.

Lets start by looking at the Oakley Plaintiff Squared Sunglasses, a pioneering twist on the Plaintiff – Oakley’s rendition of the classic teardrop shaped ‘Aviator’ style sunglasses. The first noticeable difference is the lenses and as you will see; the change of shape gives them a whole new persona. This ’squaring off’ technique makes them suit the vast majority of head and face shapes and Oakley’s patented three-point fit system means that they will always fit! Made from the incredibly strong yet flexible C-5 Metal Alloy material, the Oakley Plaintiff Squared Sunglasses are set to really take off in 2013.

In the Autumn of 2012 we were treated to the release of the Oakley Big Taco Sunglasses, a larger framed sunglass which has a shed load of personality. This year Oakley have taken the Big Taco and moulded it into the Oakley Offshoot Sunglasses; they feature a shield lens and give the user an amazing field of view and visual clarity. As with all Oakley Sunglasses they feature patented Plutonite lenses which are made from a polycarbonate compound specifically designed to be tough yet optically correct. Oakley call this technology HDO or High Definition Optics, this means that light is not distorted as it passes through the lenses and you will have perfect vision at all times – completely eliminating those annoying ’sunglass headaches’!

For us however the most exciting new release has to be the Oakley Jupiter Factory Lite Sunglasses, which are in fact a UK exclusive right here at Shade Station! Made from real Carbon Fibre and CNC machined aluminum, they are ultra-lightweight yet amazingly durable and have been tooled with tolerances of just 0.0005″! Oakley have fitted the frames with Twin Shock Hinges which were inspired by the leaf springs of professional racing machines and their flexible titanium alloy ensures a comfortable fit while providing a degree of hyper-flexing when necessary. On top of this, they have also been engineered with Unobtanium components on the arms to keep them secure on your head at all times. Unobtanium is Oakley’s patented rubber and is made from a compound which actually grips to your head the more it gets wet; allowing you to exert yourself and still have peace of mind that your sunglasses will stay put.

Taking a closer look at the new Oakley ladies sunglasses, it is clear to see that they have honed in on the all important trend and styling element; utilising ideas from the more fashion focused sunglass brands and combining them with their own innovative technology. One of the most exciting new styles are the Oakley News Flash Sunglasses which take a classic shape and given it a complete overhaul; adding striking temple designs and shapes to give the News Flash Sunglasses that added dimension. Colours are used to fantastic effect with multi-toned frames and conveniently practical lenses. The Oakley News Flash Sunglasses are made from Oakley’s patented O Matter frame material; a compound which is incredibly strong yet durable and which is tested to the same degree as industrial strength eyewear!

Much like the Oakley Daisy Chain Sunglasses, the Oakley Given Sunglasses use the classic ‘Aviator’ shape lenses to devastatingly wonderful effect. The thin C-5 Alloy frames feature beautiful temple designs and the multi-toned frames appeal to even the most discerning lady! Oakley have not really been known for their stylish women’s sunglasses, but this year they have certainly put this right. The Oakley Given Sunglasses also feature the amazing Plutonite lenses and these are 100% UVA, UVB and UVC protective which provides complete protection for your eyes in even the strongest sunlight. Unlike many other lenses, the UV protection is not added via a coating, but is actually built into the lenses meaning that even if they get scratched or chipped your eyes will still be safe as houses!

Last but not least we come to the Oakley Obsessed Sunglasses and Oakley LBD Sunglasses, these styles are designed to be for the more fashion conscious lady and feature beautifully thin arms, trendy colourways and interesting temple designs. Unobtanium ear stem ends are Oakley’s injection of innovation on these ranges and make them undeniably more practical than other brands looking to vie for the top fashion stakes this year.

Here at Shade Station we like to showcase the best new sunglasses and it is safe to say that Oakley are going to really take the limelight this season. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Twitter for daily updates…Happy New Year everyone!

Sneak-a-Peek: New Oakley October Releases

July 4, 2012
Posted by Dan

Here at Shade Station, we like to keep everyone updated on anything new in the sunglasses world and we thought you would all like to know about the new Oakley sunglasses releases for this October. A whole plethora of great new styles are being released and they all have even better names; Backhand, Forehand, Break Point, Twentysix 2, Warm Up, Big Taco and Garage Rock. As you can see below, they all have a fantastic array of styles and colours designed to keep you cool and protect your eyes. In this blog, we will be looking at each model briefly and explain why Oakley should be your choice this summer.

Lets start with the Backhand and Forehand; two fantastic new styles that compliment each other perfectly. They are both advocates of Oakley’s three point fit technology; an innovation which allows any sunglass, regardless of the size to fit your face perfectly. The sunglasses will only ever contact your face is three places; above your ears and on the bridge of your nose, allowing for a comfortable fit for as long as you want to wear them. Oakley have this patented, much like most of their innovations, so you know that no one else can have this same unrivalled enjoyment whilst wearing their sunglasses.

Oakley like to push the boat out a bit with their sunglasses; especially in style and design. You only have to take a look at the new Break Point sunglasses to see that they have redesigned the trademark Oakley ‘O’ and gone for a whole new radical look. The striking tapered arms make it a future fashion classic and the lenses are dripping with Oakley spec. The plutonite lens material provides unsurpassed protection for your eyes, filtering out 100% of harmful UVA, UVB and UVC light, including the dangerous blue light emitted from the sun. Unlike other sunglass lenses, there are no coatings that filter the sunlight, it is the actual lens that is cuts it out, meaning that even if you chip, mark or scuff them; your eyes will always be protected.

Now, I don’t think we’ve ever known anyone who does not like an Aviator style sunglass…and Oakley know this, which is why they have released a brand new thick framed aviator aimed at women; the Twentysix 2. The two-tone frame accentuates the thicker rims giving you the classic ‘celebrity’ look and the frame itself is just just a pretty face. Made from Oakley’s O Matter plastic, it is flexible and durable; designed to withstand huge force without losing it’s original shape. This is perfect for putting them in the microbag and shoving them in your handbag – you know that when you get back to them, they will still be intact.

If you like your Oakleys, then you will know that the Holbrook and Frogskins are absolute monsters in the sunglass world; and for this October, Oakley have combined the two styles to make the Garage Rock. There is not much I can say about these, really, other than look at them…stone cold cool with Oakley’s remarkable lenses. Each different colour has a different colour ‘O’ symbol on the arm making your sunglass that little different from the others.  However, this type of subtle cool is not for everyone and this is why Oakley are finishing off the range with the Big Taco; a striking, larger frame with plenty of lens to showcase their HD Optics. It doesn’t matter where light comes through the lens, it is corrected automatically, stopping your eyes from straining at any time and stopping those annoying ’sunglass headaches’.

These sunglasses are due for release in October 2012 so just click on the one you like a register for a reminder.

Oakley Frogskins on Acid!

June 21, 2012
Posted by Dan

The Oakley Frogskins are synonymous with the stone cold cool of the classic 80’s style, however with the new Acid range, it is safe to say that Oakley have kicked the boat out a bit. Due to their exclusive nature; the new Acid Tortoise Frogskins from Oakley are amongst the most sought after sunglasses for this summer! You only have to look at these limited edition ‘funglasses’ to see why they are so popular; the striking colour scheme, the classic retro shape and most importantly the 21st Century Oakley eyewear technology. They are positively brimming with spec, designed to ensure the user is comfortable, their eyes are protected from harmful UV rays and they look cool whilst wearing them.

Oakley Sunglasses lenses are completely UVA, UVB and UVC protective, meaning that even if the lenses get scratched your eyes will not be harmed. This is due to the plutonite material that the lenses are made from, it’s patented material make-up means that it is unlike any other lens material in the world. Oakley’s XYZ Optic technology means that light is never refracted through the lens and therefore your eyes will not strain to see through the lenses either. Easy to see then why people choose Oakley Frogskins over similar styles.

The new Acid range is available in five different colours with different lenses in each – all are available to view in our Oakley Frogksins section. A great feature of the new Acid Frogskins is that all of the colours have an Iridium coating on the lenses; this is the mirrored finish that really takes them from regular styles to absolute show stoppers! The inventive finishes such as Emerald Iridium, Ruby Iridium and the Fire Iridium mean that the majority of light is refelected away from the lenses, making vision clearer, sharper and more comfortable for the user.

Oakley have made this a very limited edition range and once the stock is gone…it’s gone. This is your chance to own a piece of sunglass history; whether you are an avid Oakley collector or someone who just wants a statement piece for this summer. Either way, the Oakley Acid Frogskins are available from us here at Shade Station and are not to be missed!

Beyond Reason: Oakley’s Olympic Dreams

May 17, 2012

Oakley Beyond Reason Campaign

Oakley Beyond Reason Campaign

It seems like the entire world is in waiting for the Olympics in London this year and Oakley have ensured that their sunglasses will appear on the faces of over 600 athletes throughout the games. With the release of new sports performance styles such as Oakley Radarlock, Oakley Racing Jacket, Oakley Team GB Flak Jacket and Oakley Team GB Radar Path they have exceeded their own already impeccable standards once again.  The ‘Beyond Reason’ campaign for the Olymics is designed to pay tribute to all athletes, whether they are competing in the Olympics or not, who are tirelessly driven by the impulse and passion to go beyond reason. This enthusiasm to succeed in all aspects of sports performance is what has got Oakley to where they are today; and in this post, we aim to look at the new breed of sunglasses that are going to propel Oakley over the finish line in the competition to exceed expectations this summer.

Let’s start with the newest masterpiece to come from Oakley HQ in the Foothills Ranch, California. The Radarlock is dripping with new Oakley technology, designed to make life for the user quick, easy and comfortable. Oakley’s new Switchlock system allows the user to change their lenses quickly and easily to adapt to any light or weather condition at any time. The benefit of having the full array of Oakley’s performance lenses at your disposable is nearly an unfair advantage surely! Not to mention the 8-base lens curvature which wraps around the eyes and head providing you with full periferal coverage from any harmful UV rays and sunlight, meaning that they are a safe choice too. This is also prevolent in the impact testing that Oakley have for their sunglasses. They are made to withstand the impact tests designed for Industrial Strength Eyewear and stand head and shoulders over their closest competitors.

With the recent discontinuation of the Oakley Jawbone Sunglasses, Oakley had to replace them with an equally popular sports performance sunglass, which could meet the uncomprimising demands of world class athletes. The Racing Jacket was the answer. A sunglass that allows you to use your Jawbone lenses in the frame, a sunglass with split frame to allow for easy lens changes, a sunglass with a removable retaining head strap for added stability. The list could go on forever, but it is really the headstrap that draws attention to the Racing Jackets. Designed to keep the sunglasses on your face in high G forces, this will surely be a popular choice for cyclists the world over. Made from Oakley’s patented O Matter composite frame material, they are flexible, strong and yet extremely comfortable and lightweight; perfect for all day usage and durability.

Along with the standard Sports Performance range, Oakley have released a Team GB range, specifically made for the London Olympics this summer. The first of which is the Team GB Flak Jacket XLJ sunglasses which boasts a striking blue and white colourscheme and an advanced Grey Polarised XLJ lens. The HD Optics in the lens provide complete protection and clarity for the user and are fully UVA, UVB and UVC protective, which means that even if the lenses become scratched or chipped, your eyes will still be covered from the harmful sunlight. Also, the XYZ optic technology in the lenses mean that your eyesight will always be razor sharp, right up to the edge of your peripheral vision.

Finally, the Oakley Team GB Radar Path Sunglasses really show the innovation from Oakley. Athletes have won more championships and medals with Oakley sunglasses than with any other product on earth and this heritage continues into the Radar. A real groundbreaker in performance technology. The single blade lens gives you an over 180° field of vision without light getting in through the edges and the micro-fibre bag for storage ensures that the lens stays in tip top condition. You can also choose the nosepiece that gives you the best fit. Two nosepieces are included with the sunglasses; one smaller and one larger so that you can customise your Oakleys to fit your specific nose shape. All of these features show exactly why Oakley has gained so much popularity in the world of sport; although it is one particular feature that really sets this pair apart from other models. Oakley have included surge ports in the sunglasses for increased air flow to stop the sunglasses fogging up during exercise; an invaluable piece of technology which all athletes would back.

To conclude, it is easy to see why Oakley sunglasses will adorn the faces of hundreds of athletes this summer and provide unrivalled quality to those in the know.

Valentino Rossi: Living Legend Joins Oakley

May 2, 2012
Posted by Dan
Nine time World Champion Valentino Rossi

Nine time World Champion Valentino Rossi

Valentino ‘The Doctor’ Rossi is first in the all time 500cc MotoGP race wins standings, with 79 victories, and second in the all time overall wins standings with 105 race wins and now he has joined forces with Oakley to create a range of sunglasses for this summer! He has inspired four styles for the new range; Frogskin, Deviation, Holbrook and Jupiter Squared. Each and any every one is injected with a little bit of Rossi’s unique style and flair.

The classic Frogskin style has had an appointment with The Doctor and come out the other side looking better than ever! The Polished Black frame is bold, yet aestetically pleasing and made of the patented Oakley OMatter plastic composite making them strong, yet incredibly flexible. Desgined to absorb impact, the frame itself should  be able to withstand even the fastest motorbike crashes! With such a good frame, it would be a crime not to have an equally good lens and Oakley have not disappointed. Made to their usual dazzling standards, the Valentino Rossi Frogskins come with a Fire Iridium lens as standard, which boasts some of the best eyewear technology available today. Not only is it made to withstand the same impact as Industrial Protective Eyewear, the lens is self is completely UVA, UVB and UVC protective, meaning that even if they get scratched, your eyes will still be safe and sound.

No sunglasses collection would be really complete without an appearance from the classic Aviator style. This is portrayed with the Valentino Rossi Edition Oakley Deviation Sunglasses. The vintage look has been overhauled Rossi style with the teardrop shaped lenses curving inwards making a more rectangular lens shape. This is all on a 6-Base lens curvature (which is tech talk for the contour that angles back at the sides), this means that little or no light will be able to get in through the sides and bottom of the sunglasses and into your eyes! The Warm Grey lenses themselves are a category 3 lens; a dark lens which is perfect for driving and general usage.

The Oakley Holbrook’s are synonymous with a stone cold cool image and Rossi has continued this in his range whilst still adding a touch of his own outgoing personality. The yellow Oakley icons are accentuated perfectly by the simple black frame and Rossi’s signature VR46 symbol is emblazoned on the inside of the arms. The Polished Black frame is matched with Warm Grey lenses for increased visual contrast and improved depth perception in bright sun. Every pair of the Valentino Rossi Signature Holbrooks come with a Microfibre bag for storage and cleaning, decorated in the style of the sun and moon motif from Valentino’s helmet.

Finally, we come to the Valentino Rossi Signature Jupiter Squared sunglasses. The colourful Oakley icons and vibrant yellow strips on the earstems scream Rossi style and the Fire Iridium lens really sets them apart from the norm. With Oakley’s patented Three Point Fit, you can be sure that they will fit any head size or shape and the Unobtanium earsocks ensure that they will not fall off your head. This is because Unobtanium is the only rubber in the world which actually gets sticky when wet!

In summary, the new Valentino Rossi Signature range are a breath of fresh air in the world of classic sunglasses; the vibrant, unique styles combined with Oakley technology make them the must buy sunglasses of the summer!
