September is all about fashion. With ‘fashion week’ making it’s way around the globe, the start of Autumn offers the public a sneak preview of the trends that will be gripping us in Spring / Summer 2012.
Fashion Week begins in New York on the 8th September 2011 where designers synonymous with the Big Apple, like Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Michael Kors will take to the catwalk. The following week it’s London Fashion Week. In the grand setting of Somerset House, Vivianne Westwood, PPQ, Mulberry and other great names in British Fashion, will share their vision for the fashion landscape in 2012. Next up is Milan, with Italian stalwarts like Prada, Gucci and Armani dazzling an international audience with their high fashion jinx. Fashion Week then makes it’s way to the French capital of Paris, where designers such as Dior, Celine and Chanel will wow the packed aisles with their spectacular threads. Tokyo and LA are on the schedule for Fashion Week this Autumn, however the ‘big four’ remain – New York, London, Milan and Paris.
Now’s the time to book your tickets for the various shows and start thinking about your outfit choices! Shade Station is here to help ensure you accessorise for the occasion! With our fabulous selection of cutting edge jewellery, beautiful watches and designer sunglasses, you’ll be spoiled for choice and undoubtedly the best accessorised bod at Fashion Week!

Following a recent jaunt around London’s luxury west end (window shopping naturally), it became obvious that fluorescent clothing and accessories are one of the key looks this season. As lurid as it may sound, half the designers on New and Old Bond Street have said it’s so… DKNY, Micheal Kors, Hermes, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana have all embraced the trend with eye popping day glo window displays. It’s not often that sunglasses are required on an overcast Spring evening, but the windows of W1 were awash with acid colours so bright, dark lenses were entirely necessary!
We draw the line at luminous clothing (some things are best kept in the Eighties) however we can totally get on board with accents of fluorescent colour, if fashion demands it! So how best to wear the acid look? Accessories – including bags, sunglasses, watches, jewellery and shoes, are your best bet (see recent pics of Sienna Miller in her neon shoes or The Saturdays in their LTD Watches). A flash of luminous colour ensures you’re up to date and embracing the trend, but doesn’t scream fashion victim.
This look is great for the summer and particularly successful at festivals. Designer neon sunglasses are fairly hard to come by and you tend to have to buy cheap to wear day-glo shades, but concessions can be made with this fad and colourful sunnies will cut the mustard too… Brands like Carrera and Diesel are perfect for a slice of colour popping. The ‘Thor’ Carrera sunglasses are particularly bright with frames in clear bright pink, purple and blue and a further look through the collection reveals exciting designs with an array of colourful lenses and styles. For a slightly more feminine approach, both Marc Jacobs and Pucci sunglasses, incorporate plenty of colour and look fashionable to boot.
When it comes to watches, no colour is bright enough or too acidic! Like a little piece of sunshine on your wrist, neon watches are playful and hugely on trend this summer. Sporty brands like Adidas, Baby G and Casio, use bright colours often throughout their collections and LTD watches are colour saturated. But for pure fluorescent adulteration new brand Gio-Goi watches is the answer! In shades of neon – green, pink, yellow, orange and blue – these bold watches embrace this seasons flouro trend to a tee!
So the moral is; Accessorise your outfits this Spring / Summer with bursts of fluorescent colour, rather than an all-over neon tan, to avoid looking like an Eighties reject!

Marc Jacobs is the belle of the New York Fashion Scene. His recent show at NY Fashion Week 2011 which he described as being inspired by “discipline, severity and fetish” was hailed as triumphant by The Guardian. Whilst the rest of the fashion world continued plumping for the Seventies trend, Jacobs went out on a limb with his structured garb.
This is typical of Marc Jacobs, he always does his own thing, which leads to enormous originality and a defiant quirkiness. From his designer-wear to his accessories and watches, Jacobs stamps his own personality on every collection.
Take Marc by Marc Jacobs watches for example, rather than produce run of the mill glitzy silver and gold wristwear like many other designer brands, Jacobs sticks to his guns and designs fun, novelty pieces which look amusing on the wrist and spark a bit of interest. With a dose of wit and some irresistible cheek, Marc by Marc Jacobs watches are playful and smart. Jacobs likes rich colours like purple, burgundy and gold and uses lip prints very liberally across his wristwear collections. Giant glittery lips adorn watch faces as do smaller irregular lips and many of his watches feature Miss Marc, Jacob’s signature cartoon design.
In addition to traditional wristwear, the Marc by Marc Jacobs watches collection also boasts some pretty necklaces with clock faces weaved into the design. These necklaces are an interesting alternative to regular time-telling and highlight further, Jacob’s quirky appeal. Both necklace designs play on a romantic theme, with one displaying a chunky heart housing the clock, attached to the chain by two cartoon like love birds in yellow and orange. The other piece of jewellery spells out the word ‘love’ in bright colours and again the birds provide the attachment to the chain, with the clock face incorporated within the ‘o’ of love.
Marc by Marc Jacobs watches are unique and fun, which can be a welcome relief within the world of designer fashion, that often takes itself far too seriously. Aimed at the youthful and the stylish Jacobs watches are a treat to behold.

With London Fashion Week (LFW) beginning this week, the capital is gearing up for a massive fashionable love in. Designers, models, editors and other fashion folk are prepping themselves for countless nights of lost sleep, gallons of bubbles, vodka and coffee and most of all, the wonderful, fabulous new clothes and accessories to hit the catwalk.
Hot off the back of New York Fashion Week, where Big Apple designers such as DKNY, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors wowed fashionistas and celebrities, London Fashion Week is considered the freshest and most exciting of all the shows. Known for discovering and celebrating new designers, LFW, is a sure fire way to consolidate a new brand and ensure plenty of column inches in magazines and websites across the world. Designers like Mark Fast (famed for his oversized models last year and of course his knitwear), Christopher Kane and Louise Gray have all found fame in recent years by showing at LFW. Newbies - Cassette Playa, Nancy Van Ostren and Sarah Baadarani are among this years hopefuls who are eager that their show at LFW will help them reach a wider audience and importantly give them access to the top fashion buyers.
Established labels like PPQ, Betty Jackson, Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood and hot royal favourite, Issa London (Kate Middleton’s designer of choice) are all on the LFW 2011 schedule. So there’s a real mix of fabulous old and young brands to watch.
With catwalks all over the Capital in the next week, London is an exciting and vibrant place to be. The chances of running into a top model, designer or celebrity is naturally increased and the number of related fashion events and parties, in store and bars, are rife.
Clearly this is a time to be looking your very best! Fashion forward and on-trend is the order of the day…. So get those stylish threads and designer sunglasses at the ready!

American fashion designer Marc Jacobs is one of the most sought after designers in the world with his pieces seen on some of the most inspirational fashionistas in the industry.
If we’re honest, as much as we’d love to, many of us can’t afford to adorn ourselves in Marc Jacobs clothing and accessories and so therefore in 2001 Jacobs launched his Marc by Marc Jacobs diffusion line which now means that we can all look stylish in his pieces and still manage to keep our bank accounts (relatively) happy! Proving an immense success, from the moment it was showcased on the runway, all the style icons including Lauren Conrad Nicole Ritchie and Megan Fox were rushing out to be seen in Marc by Marc Jacobs and it quickly became one of the most prominent, hip and cool designer labels on the style scene.
We are incredibly excited to be getting a piece of the action at Shade Station with the arrival of Marc by Marc Jacobs watches; comprising of designs for men and women in addition to a selection of unisex styles that look equally cool on the guys and girls. The designer is famed for his love of quirky appeal and retro chic and this theme is definitely evident in the watch collection. The range is beautifully eclectic with features including stainless steel chunky straps or on-trend polycarbonate straps with textured links and bold dials with colourful time markers. The dial is usually the striking point of each watch; some with funky designed numbers presented in the images of ghosts and hearts for example, adding a sense of light-hearted fun to fashion which is representative of the designer’s personality! Some Marc by Marc Jacobs watches are also creatively jewellery inspired with daisy shaped pendant dials (daisies are a core part of the entire Marc by Marc Jacobs collection) on a necklace chain. Colour is a strong design element but is never too ostentatious, with the overall look of the watch remaining trendy, ultra stylish and statement.
For ladies who like to go glam and elegant, there is a Marc by Marc Jacobs watch to suit as well as watches to appeal to all of you quirky and eclectic style lovers. Many Marc by Marc Jacobs watches have the ability to transcend from day to night and the collection also features statement watches that are hugely on trend but with the Marc Jacobs vibrant, artistic and unique stamp.

Summer is officially here, the sun is shining and we couldn’t be happier! With the warmer months comes the usual smorgasbord of amazing festivals to get your hedonistic thrills at. Whether you enjoy moshing at ‘Download’, country pursuits at ‘The Green Man’, teenage kicks at ‘V Festival’, fancy dress at ‘Bestival’, glamour at newbie ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ or the mystic of ‘Glastonbury’, you must ensure you’re dressed for the occasion.
Festivals, fashionable summer gear and cool sunglasses all go hand in hand. Maybe it’s the influence of Gaga or perhaps Dita Von Teese, but this summer is all about kooky and vintage. With styles from the Fifties and Sixties making a comeback, we predict this year’s festivals to be awash with vintage shaped sunglasses in a cat’s eye style or small round frames, oversized sunglasses in reds, greens and brown and retro-looking shades.
The festival season kicked off with April’s Coachella Festival in California, where a host of celebrities dazzled with their fashionable threads and on-trend sunglasses. Kelly Osborne was spotted wearing small round framed lilac sunglasses, Katy Perry went retro in angular black frames with a bold white stripe across the top, Dita Von Teese personified Fifties elegance in oversized brown sunglasses with graduated lenses and Kate Bosworth dressed to impress in classic Ray Ban Aviators.
Aviators and Wayfarers from Ray Ban transcend fashion and will always be popular and current. For classic sunglasses you can’t go wrong with either of these styles for festival frolicking. The same goes for oversized glam shades. Designers like Gucci, Bvlgari, Versace, D&G, MDG Sunglasses, Chanel and Pucci all have great sunglasses for summer goddess style. On the other hand if you’re a seasonal type of girl with a desire to look fabulous and ‘now’ – take a leaf from Kelly O’s book and opt for small round shades. This style was all over the spring / summer catwalks and looks great in pastel coloured frames teamed with a floral frock or playsuit. Or you may want to play the vintage diva with cats eye shaped sunglasses – again a strong trend on the catwalk this year. Look to brands like Prada and Marc Jacobs to achieve this look.
We’ve got our Big Chill tickets and our festival sunnies sorted. Now it’s just a case of praying for sunshine! Here’s hoping….
