In 1999 the House of Chanel introduced its first line of sunglasses despite the iconic designer Coco Chanel passing away 28 years previous. Inspired by her own creations, Karl Lagerfeld, at that point the creative brain behind Fendi, decided to launch a line of Chanel eyewear which has risen dramatically in popularity due to grand advertising campaigns and of course, being featured on the silver screen.
Every time I think of Chanel, I immediately immerse into a dream filled with luxury, sophistication and glamour. There is definitely no wrong time to be seen wearing a pair of Chanel shades – they are absolutely appropriate for every occasion be it the oversized frames or a chic visor style. The brand always exceeds expectations and with a range of diamante designs, luxuriously styled arms, intertwining C’s and the Chanel’s
unique flower designs, Chanel is a brand which always manages to achieve classic styling with contemporary trends. Some of the frames are beautifully patterned with a crystal weave effect for example (as with the Chanel Sunglasses CH5145) and the iconic CC logo located on the arms. Let’s face it, a pair of Chanel sunglasses are a to-die-for accessory which every girl desires to own.
Indeed celebrities have a huge impact on establishing the popularity of a brand but Chanel is one of those classic labels whose identity will also benefit the celebrity spotted wearing it. A stunning pair of sunglasses,
as we all know can make a huge statement about the wearer’s personality, status, wealth and of course style. Hiding behind shades might certainly portray an air of mystery, but can also reveal a great deal. The celebrities and members of the fash pack who wear Chanel sunglasses include Lauren Conrad, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mary Kate Olsen and Anne Hathaway to name only a few.
Despite being designed and launched by Lagerfeld, with the range of Chanel sunglasses he has perfectly encapsulated the essence of Coco Chanel’s love of exquisite yet simple designs which portray character, personality and ultimate femininity. A pair of Chanel sunglasses will look fantastic for life and are a sure winning investment.

Tags:Gucci’s flagship London store at 18 Sloane Street was recently treated to a renovation to bring it in line with the brand’s contemporary 21st Century image. The new-look boutique was unveiled on the eve of the G20 meeting in April, as Alexandra Schulman, the editor of British Vogue threw a lavish dinner for Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini. Guests and revelers included Sophie Dahl with fiancé Jamie Cullum, Claudia Schiffer, the Geldof sisters and Richard Ashcroft.
Just like their stores, Gucci’s campaigns are hitting more modern notes. Using a slew of hip stars to promote their fresh image, glossy Gucci ads have seen actress Clare Danes, popstar Rhianna and Brit model Lily Donaldson fly the glamorous Gucci flag.
Often going above and beyond her Gucci obligations, Rhianna in particular is a huge fan of the label. She is pictured regularly wearing Gucci and sporting the most up-to-date Gucci sunglasses. Other fans of Gucci sunglasses include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kylie, Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Katherine Heigl and the beautiful Camilla Belle.
Often ostentatious Gucci sunglasses celebrate the label’s glitzy vibrant Italian heritage. Bold and strong with arresting detail on the arms, regularly incorporating the ‘G’ of the logo, Gucci shades are flash and fabulous. The new collection for 2009 is comprehensive and smart, using cut out detailing, hints of gold, hearts and baroque patterns. Colours are diverse, from black and tortoiseshell to red and white, there’s a shade for every fashionista. And the styles vary greatly too, from classic over-sized square and circular lenses and frames to blinged up aviators and a nod to the ever-popular ray-ban style.
Proving there’s still plenty of call for striking European style shades, Gucci have come up trumps with this season’s sunglasses collection and we urge you to unleash your inner diva and GO GUCCI!

Tags:Dsquared is the hip label loved by all celebrities. Their clothing is regularly seen on Justin Timberlake, Lenny Kravitz and Ricky Martin. Madonna had them design costumes for her Drowned World Tour in 2001. Christina Aguilera and Rihanna took to the catwalk for them, stripping male models and posing in a muscle car respectively. Hell, even Britney’s in on the act, having commissioned the company to design outfits for her current Circus World Tour. And it doesn’t end there, the Italian Football team Juventus had Dsquared design their team kit in 1996. For a label on the edge of the high fashion periphery, Dsquared have a very loyal and glitzy following!
Dsquared is the brainchild of Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten, who moved to Italy in 1991 to pursue their love of fashion. In 1994 they took to the Milanese runway with their debut men’s collection. The remainder of the Nineties saw the boys develop and grow their label and in 2003 they introduced a women’s collection as well as picking up a GQ Award for ‘Men of the Year award for breakout design’.
This year Dsquared have launched their first sunglasses collection. Paying homage to the 70s hip hop culture, Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, the boys have created an exciting and sexy range which you’ll be able to buy at Shade Station very soon. The collection consists of 16 sunglasses designs for men and women and has been described as ‘self-assured, vibrant and sexy’. Much like the models advertising them, Naomi Campbell, Tyson Beckford and Linda Evangelista!
Contrast is key to the designs. Men’s frames alternate between teardrop shaped metal and square shaped acetate, occasionally with a touch of gold. Dsquared Women’s sunglasses are angular and wide with large circular lenses. They come in shades of red, tortoiseshell, dark brown and black.
Both men’s and women’s models have a Seventies silhouette and some are embellished with gold and jewels, to reflect the glamour of the era. If these very cool designs appeal to you, make sure you stay glued to Shade Station as Dsquared sunnies wil be available to purchase imminently!

Christian Dior. As soon as I hear those two words I think glamour, beauty, luxury and sophistication. The brand, whose designer was one of the most influencial of the late 1940’s and 1950’s (and one of the most iconic of our time), is created for people who adore fashion and thus Dior sunglasses are made for the fashion conscious. They make a statement and proof to the fact that practicality can easily be combined with striking beauty.
The range of Dior sunglasses for 2009 is simply divine and of course complete with an array of frames, styles and lens tints. One of the new styles includes the Very Dior white to gold coloured frames which are quite retro in appearance and the complete essence of glamour. Think Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) style in The Devil Wears Prada! The new Dorita 2 pink and brown design is also fantastic and has a funkier edge as the colour is graduated. The brown tinted lenses also make for a very sophisticated 70’s feel. Of course, the classic frames including the plastic edge Stronger style are still as popular as ever
and the brand perfectly carries its own unique flair within all the designs within the range.
Indeed, function is important when choosing a pair of sunglasses but let’s be honest, Dior shades in addition to function are also heavily geared towards the wonderful feeling of owning an iconic accessory and looking aesthetically beautiful. They certainly achieve that sense of satisfaction! Celebrities who love a touch of Dior include Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Heidi Montag and Angelina Jolie to name only a few. Christian Dior sunglasses are definitely the perfect fashion accessory for those who value style, looks and creating an impact.
