Von Zipper was originally founded in 1999 but was bought by sports/fashion label Billabong in 2001 who instantly recognised the brand’s edgy and eclectic style and saw it as an up and coming brand that had great potential. Von Zipper was able to keep its original team of designers and retain its unique image and Billabong escalated it further into the sports/fashion industry and helped to raise its profile.

Von Zipper sunglasses and goggles are incredibly eye catching and have an attitude that represents the ultimate in competitive style and function. The Von Zipper product development and design team are constantly working towards launching new, exciting and innovative styles every year and fans of the brand are always waiting with anticipation to see what products are coming next.

Within the designs which incorporate visually striking patterns that instantly grab your attention, Von Zipper is influenced by individual style, fashion, hip-hop, punk rock and adrenaline and has a fearless attitude attached to the name. Bands including Green Day and Velvet Revolver are fans of the Von Zipper brand and are regularly seen sporting the sunglasses. Von Zipper team riders include 3-time world surf champion Andy Irons as well as fresh talent including skateboarder Karen Jones, snowboarder Nick Visconti and surfer Joel Parkinson.

The brand has also been noted particularly during 2009 as a firm hit with a number of celebrities having been spotted on A Listers including Justin Timberlake, Paris Hilton, The Prodigy, Motorhead, The Offspring, Kanye West and Heidi Klum who love the eclectic and unique style that the brand has to offer.

In terms of function, Von Zipper goggles will ensure that you are safe on the slopes and that your eyes and face are fully protected. The brand is notorious for manufacturing its products using only the highest quality materials and most innovative of technologies. With functional features including air circulation between the goggle and the face, forward venting, anti fog lens coating and full 100 percent UV protection, there is an incredibly wide variety of styles and sizes with an array of vibrant colours and patterns. Always at the forefront of technology, there is even a style of Von Zipper goggles – the SkullCandy Replicator which incorporates a removable set of headphones. With a funky black and white web style pattern, these are a fierce looking pair of goggles that will definitely look amazing up on the slopes!

Some of the smaller Von Zipper goggles such as the Sizzle style are designed for smaller faces and are also incredibly budget friendly at £38.25.

Von Zipper is regarded as an extremely cool and respected brand as aside from its collections, it also sponsors, hosts or makes appearances at cool sporting events such as the recent Eddie Aikau big wave surf contest which took place earlier this month and was also won by Von Zipper supercharger Greg Long. The brand’s products have become renowned in the extreme sports industry and worn by a number of athletes who require the best in order to maximise their performance. In terms of style, Von Zipper has also become prominent in the fashion and celebrity world and is definitely the brand to be wearing in 2010 whether this be on or off the slopes!

Oakley Goggles rule the slopes!

oakleygog1
It’s common knowledge that Oakley rule the mountains, seas and fresh water when it comes to protective eyewear. With 30 years of sports accessory innovation and design, Oakley are undoubtedly the masters of their game.

With the ski season upon us and the first signs of snowfall in the UK uniting the nation, it’s time to gear up for the big freeze! If you’re planning a ski trip abroad this winter it’s essential that you hit the slopes with the right kit. Boards and ski apparatus can be hired at the resort but it’s important that you pack good quality, practical ski wear and DO NOT forget your eyewear!

Your eyes are very sensitive to bright light and the light is particularly dazzling on the mountains, as it reflects off the snow. Although sunglasses designed for sport do the job admirably, goggles will really give your eyes the protection they need. Oakley googles are designed using 3D Cranial Geometry, ensuring a snug fit, and layered with a triple layer of foam, making for a comfortable ride. With polarised lenses, protecting against glare and reinforced materials to offer protection on impact, Oakley goggles are guaranteed to make you feel safer as you tackle those hairy mountain runs!

It’s not unusual to see the A-list enjoying the mountain air and they all know that protective eyewear shields against the glare of the sun and the prying eyes of the public! Younger Hollywood stars, particularly the likes of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are often seen wearing both snowboard helmets and googles for ultimate winter sports protection. Not only are Oakley googles practical, they also improve your clarity of vision on the slopes and lend you an air of professionalism.

July 8, 2009

Wimbledon 2009 has been a scorcher and this rare display of great British weather has given us a grand opportunity to see just which sunglasses the celebs favour.
The first day of the tournament saw Jude Law hanging out with actor Jonny Lee Miller and unsurprisingly both opted for traditional and stylish Ray Ban sunglasses, with Jude modelling Wayfarers and the Trainspotting actor in aviators. The same day Razorlight’s Jonny Borrell was also seen sporting his black Ray Ban Wayfarers whilst enjoying the tennis.
Wimbledon appeals to all ages and older fans including Sir Cliff Richards, Sir Trevor Macdonald, Sir Bobby Charlton, Bruce Forsyth, Rolf Harris and racing driver Jackie Stewart were seen cheering on their favourites this year. In the younger camp Aleesha Dixon was in attendance, as was Sam Mendes and his Oscar winning wife Kate Winslet, who watched Federer secure his place in the semi’s. Ewan Macgregor was seen cheering on fellow Scot, Andrew Murray and both Eddie Izzard and Noel Fielding were spotted in the crowd at SW19.

This year’s celebrity talking piece came in the form of Justin Timberlake who took time out of his schedule promoting his ‘William Rast’ clothing label to support Andy Roddick on Centre Court. Displaying his usual effortless laid back cool, JT accessorised with a flat cap and a pair of Wayfarer style sunglasses with a stylish navy coloured frames. International pop sensation Grace Jones also rocked Wimbledon wearing an outlandish hat and oversized black sunnies.
To score your own fashion ace in similar oversized sunglasses look to brands like Gucci, Prada, Pucci, D&G and Chanel for classic ’leading lady’ style.

April 25, 2009

Dsquared is the hip label loved by all celebrities. Their clothing is regularly seen on Justin Timberlake, Lenny Kravitz and Ricky Martin. Madonna had them design costumes for her Drowned World Tour in 2001. Christina Aguilera and Rihanna took to the catwalk for them, stripping male models and posing in a muscle car respectively. Hell, even Britney’s in on the act, having commissioned the company to design outfits for her current Circus World Tour. And it doesn’t end there, the Italian Football team Juventus had Dsquared design their team kit in 1996. For a label on the edge of the high fashion periphery, Dsquared have a very loyal and glitzy following!

Dsquared is the brainchild of Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten, who moved to Italy in 1991 to pursue their love of fashion. In 1994 they took to the Milanese runway with their debut men’s collection. The remainder of the Nineties saw the boys develop and grow their label and in 2003 they introduced a women’s collection as well as picking up a GQ Award for ‘Men of the Year award for breakout design’.

This year Dsquared have launched their first sunglasses collection. Paying homage to the 70s hip hop culture, Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, the boys have created an exciting and sexy range which you’ll be able to buy at Shade Station very soon. The collection consists of 16 sunglasses designs for men and women and has been described as self-assured, vibrant and sexy’. Much like the models advertising them, Naomi Campbell, Tyson Beckford and Linda Evangelista!

Contrast is key to the designs. Men’s frames alternate between teardrop shaped metal and square shaped acetate, occasionally with a touch of gold. Dsquared Women’s sunglasses are angular and wide with large circular lenses. They come in shades of red, tortoiseshell, dark brown and black.

Both men’s and women’s models have a Seventies silhouette and some are embellished with gold and jewels, to reflect the glamour of the era. If these very cool designs appeal to you, make sure you stay glued to Shade Station as Dsquared sunnies wil be available to purchase imminently!
