Dolce and Gabbana Sunglasses

Those Sicilian boys have some friends in high places. Not content with setting the world alight with their fashion threads, Dolce and Gabbana are fierce collaborators with some of Pop’s greatest stars.

In her biggest tour to date the ‘Aphrodite – Les Folies’ World Tour, Kylie Minogue has teamed up with D&G to design all her costumes. With Greek mythology as the inspiration, the Sicilian duo have created a mythical tour wardrobe fit for a (pop) princess. In addition to their work with the diminutive Aussie singer, they also joined forces with the Queen of pop, Madonna, last year to create a line of stunning D&G sunglasses. The designers have been friends with Madonna since the early Nineties, when they created all the costumes for her ‘Girlie Show Tour’ – however this is the first time Madonna has become involved in their creative process. Their collaborative line of sunnies are called MDG sunglasses and have been received well by both the critics and the public. The MDG range for D&G is a sophisticated collection of largely oversized sunglasses in varying prints and shapes, which wouldn’t look out of place on the riviera… or the Milanese catwalk….

Coming on to the Milanese catwalk – The Fashion Week spectacle has now seamlessly moved on to Milan and over the next few days the very best of Italian designers will be strutting their stuff at Milan Fashion Week. Naturally Dolce & Gabbana will be there along with the likes of Armani, Gucci, Maxmara, Prada and Versace to name a few.

D&G are showing on Sunday ahead of the 2011 Oscars Ceremony. It’s always a closely guarded secret which designers are dressing which stars for the red carpet at the Oscars, but there are sure to be a few D&G dresses on the night. D&G has always been synonymous with a laid back sexy kind of design, but they can really rev it up for the red carpet. Halle Berry is a big fan of D&G, as are Jennifer Aniston and Anne Hathaway. However it remains to be seen whether the designer duo have collaborated with any Hollywood stars for this years Academy Awards… watch this space!

Zooey Deschanel for Oliver Peoples Sunglasses

Zooey Deschanel for Oliver Peoples Sunglasses

We really are spoiling you this season with our array of new brand’s on the site and now there is a further sought-after label to add to our list!

Yes, we are very excited to tell you that Californian sunglasses brand Oliver Peoples will soon be hitting the Shade Station shelves. This brand is a huge favourite among the A Listers and so a great opportunity to rock the celeb look in true style this season.

The Oliver Peoples sunglasses brand was founded back in 1986 and is now one of the most desired in the celebrity and fashion industry. Nowadays there are so many brands to choose from, sometimes what also makes a brand popular and interesting aside from its products are the ways in which it advertises itself, and its ability to stray away from the norm. Oliver Peoples is definitely one of those more forward-thinking brands….

…Firstly, it refuses to brand any of its sunglass designs with logos. Instead, distinctive aesthetic detail can be found in the form of hinge plaques, textured and patterned arms, unusually sculpted frames and vivid and vibrant colour combinations and textures.

Oliver Peoples Balmain 2 AviatorsSecondly, Oliver Peoples doesn’t give out its sunglasses to celebrities. Ironically because of this, Oliver Peoples sunglasses are adored and worn by many celebrities including Angelina Jolie, who has even said that the Oliver Peoples brand is her number one sunglass style choice. Goes to show that labels aren’t everything! However, Oliver Peoples does use celebrities in its advertising campaigns but these often feature surprising celebrity combinations; the most recent being actor Elijah Wood and Shirley Manson – the lead singer of Garbage. This is certainly an unusual choice but perfectly represents the dynamic and unique feel to the collection. Actress and style icon Zooey Deschanel has also been featured in an Oliver Peoples ad, and designer collaborations include Paris couture house Balmain who teamed with Oliver Peoples and have now created two sunglasses collections.

The brand has become famous for its vintage inspired styles that are highly distinctive and take inspiration from all forms of culture including Oliver Peoples Riley 48 Sunglassesfashion, music, film and art. The collection includes a variety of super luxurious and glamorous styles ranging from chic aviators and dramatically oversized designs to rounded spectacle inspired models – all with the unique Oliver Peoples aesthetic twists and fusing unusual combinations of colours, patterns and textures.

The lack of branding is to convey that the collection has been developed with each and every individual in mind. You can easily express your own style and personality through a pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses, which has also proven a popular touch to fans of the brand Miley Cyrus, Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston.

It’s easy for fashion to become all about designer labels and therefore Oliver Peoples sunglasses are a refreshing shift away from this, whilst still offering that exquisite and luxurious designer style.

We’ll let you know when this exciting collection arrives!

Ray Ban Sunglasses

Ray-Ban sunglasses are always a sure hit when you’re deliberating a new brand to try out. Representing an iconic history as well as high style credibility and a favourite with the style stars, there is a huge variety of Ray-Ban styles that suit most face shapes and have everything from trend inspired to classic.

Colour is a key trend moving into summer in both your clothing and accessories and Ray-Ban sunglasses are certainly a huge fan of injecting vibrant colours into some of their classic styles. With the UK music festivals only a few months ahead, Ray-Ban sunglasses are one of the main types of shades you will spot among the crowds and worn by the bands and celebs themselves; particularly the Wayfarer which is still as popular as ever before and comes in an array of cool colours, patterns and even varying colours on the frames, arms and interior of the sunglasses to jazz things up a little further! The brand new Wayfarer 2’s also have colour defined top frame sections which are contrasted with the lower frame, adding depth to the style.

The Ray-Ban Clubmaster is also still a hot favourite and with added trend inspired colours in the mix including beige, white and vibrant purple, pink, blue and black patterned tones, these are definitely one of the funkiest styles to look out for and tend to suit most face shapes.

Ray-Ban has also taken on a sporty feel for this season. Sporty chic is highly on trend for 2010 and these Ray Ban visor style RB3211’s are the perfect way to work the look. With slim frames in vibrant tones such as gold, silver, pink and blue and cool lens tones, these are ideal for summer and the large visor style lenses and sleek smart arms make the sunglasses fashionably sporty and yet still sophisticated.

The oversized look is still going strong, and Ray-Ban have characteristically put their own stamp on this style with the new CAT sunglasses which are slightly retro inspired with cool and vibrant merging colour tones and light toned lenses which look almost clear in some styles – perfect for that geek chic inspired look! The CAT style also comes in various sizes (if you like your oversized shades a little more undersized!) and colour combinations so be sure to check out the whole range.

Of course, the classic Ray-Ban aviator never ever fails to go out of fashion (as worn by Jennifer Aniston above) and is one of those trusty go-to styles that will always compliment your look, whatever your choice of outfit. There are actually some new Ray-Ban aviators to look out for this season with new lens materials and frame tones but still keeping the style faithful to its classic appeal.

The list goes on. From sporty wraparounds including the RB4108’s to oversized aviators such as the RB3386’s, Ray-Ban has every style imaginable and the choice is so varied that you are sure to find a style to suit your style personality and face shape. Of course, whilst colour is a key theme, Ray-Ban still have all the classic styles in neutral and traditional colours which again, are constantly spotted on the celebs.

Fashion trends come and go but there are certain accessory staples that will always be on trend. Sunglasses are one of them and even overtook the popularity of the bag in 2008. Every guy and girl need an ultra cool pair of shades to see in the spring and summer months and with London Fashion Week fast approaching, we are certain to see some stylish frames adorning the faces of the fashionistas to hide those late night party eyes.

Tom Ford sunglasses are sure to be one of those brands that we see in between (and probably during) the shows and are the perfect accessory to complete your wardrobe this summer. Glamorous, chic, and statement style is what Tom Ford is all about and a pair of his frames will ensure that you get noticed. Not only stylish but equally as functional, all Tom Ford sunglasses are hand crafted in Italy with exceptional attention to detail.

So what exactly is it that makes this brand so desired? Quite possibly the fact that every fashion loving celebrity owns a pair, of course! The various shapes available, particularly the oversized range, exuberate sophistication and drama and will instantly transform your dressed down jeans and t-shirt into an A list look. The famous ‘Whitney’ style has been updated for 2009 into a range of other female name inspired versions, including the ‘Simone’ style; a gorgeous black vintage style frame with bamboo effect arms. The ‘Yvette’ style with a gold frame and pearlised cream arms is definitely a personal favourite and epitomises the definition of glamour. Of course, there is something for the men too, and the Tom Ford James Bond range as seen on Daniel Craig in the most recent film ‘Quantum of Solace’ definitely give that sleek 007 vibe to your look!

Other celebrities who favour Tom Ford sunglasses include our very own Colleen Rooney, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. Tom Ford is absolutely one of the must have sunglasses brands this season and the great thing about his styles are that they never go out of fashion and will see you through many summers (and late night parties!) ahead.

Face Flatterers

May 16, 2008
Posted by Becci

In the same way you wouldn’t wear an outfit that didn’t suit your figure, don’t choose sunglasses that won’t flatter your face. Work with what you’ve got and make the most of your features, and resist splashing out on certain styles if you’re only buying them for fashion’s sake. After all, your face is the one part of the body you can’t cover up, and once you’ve planted a pair of whoppers on your mug, there’s no avoiding people’s stares!

So, before you start your sunglasses spree clarify what face shape you have, as it’s this that will distinguish which styles are winners and which are losers…

Round Face

Circular frames will only make your face appear rounder so steer clear of curves and opt for square, angular designs instead as these will make your face appear longer and slimmer.

Circular Celebs: Sophie Ellis Bexter, Kiera Knightley, Drew Barrymore, Charlotte Church

Face Flatterer: Dior Cottage shades

Heart Shaped face

To draw attention away from a wider forehead and narrow chin you need to draw the focus in towards the middle of your face to balance out your features. For this, thin rimmed frames and larger styles will work wonders.

Heart Shaped Heroines: Sophie Dahl, Michelle Pfieffer, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Reese Witherspoon

Face Flatterer: Dolce & Gabbana shades DG2027B

Oval face

Luckily for you anything goes as you’ve been blessed with the face shape that has the most balanced proportions. Experiment with the latest trends or choose squarer frames with rounded off edges if you want a fail-safe solution.

Oval Icons: Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Bosworth, Cat Deeley

Face Flatterer: Fendi shades FS445 207

Square Face

A square face means strong, angular features so round, curved or wrap-around frames look best as they help to soften the face. Classic oval styles will also compliment your characteristics.

Square Faced Superstars: Demi Moore, Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock

Face Flatterer: Stella McCartney shades STM74 LITEQ

Long face

Thin frames are a no-go, but both round and square shapes will look great on long faces. Oversized specs and decorative detailing at the temples will also help to add width to your face.

Long Faced Leading Ladies: Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox

Face Flatterer: Bvlgari shades BV8012B 851/13
