Sneak-a-Peek: Dior Homme Collection

January 31, 2013
Posted by Dan

Dior-Homme-3Here at Shade Station we manage to stay one step ahead of the game and once again we have the inside scoop on a brand new range: Dior Homme Sunglasses! That’s right, Dior are releasing a range of male sunglasses that are going to be due for release around March 2013 and they have already caused a stir in the sunglass world. Despite only being available in 2 colours and 2 styles, the Dior Homme Sunglasses Collection has an incredible depth of style and character which elevates these to the same standard as the already well established men’s sunglass brands. Known as the Dior BlackTie, these sunglasses are highly advanced and are manufactured using a unique combination of two ultra-thin layers of acetate around a thin metal structure to provide comfortable usage all day. Exclusively handmade in Japan for Dior Homme, these sunglasses benefit from all the technical skills and savoir-faire of Japanese ateliers specialised in high-end eyewear.

Dior Sunglasses have always been coveted and I think with the depth of range the Dior Homme range now represents, the brand is only going to get bigger and better; so it’s worth grabbing a pair while you can! Available right here from Shade Station in March 2013, you can be informed by email once these arrive in with us and if you follow us on Facebook and Twitter, you will be kept updated on the latest style news and trends daily…

We had two models who did a superb job of making our sunglasses and watches look effortlessly stylish! First we had Marcus, who aside from being a model is also in the band The Council, and Erica who beautifully modelled a wide selection of looks ranging from Hollywood glamour inspired to boho chic.

Shade Station PhotoshootThe brands appearing in the shoot included Ray-Ban, Tom Ford, Prada, Gucci, Adidas, Diesel, DKNY and Chanel to name only a few and the creative themes we selected were perfect to represent a cool and laid-back summer vibe!

The key sunglass styles to look out for this season definitely include oversized designs (for both men and women) as seen within the Tom Ford, BVLGARI, Dior and Oliver Peoples collections, sporty, as demonstrated in the Carrera, Dragon and Oakley ranges and colourful and retro – including Ray-Ban, Jee Vice, Pucci and Marc by Marc Jacobs. For watches, you still can’t go wrong with glitzy and glamorous using Guess watches and Juicy Couture watches as the perfect Shade Station Photoshootexamples, and also for the ladies, androgynous watches are a hot look, as seen in the collection of Fossil watches.

You’ll definitely be able to get a feel for the looks and trends when the pictures go live on our site but meanwhile, we hope you enjoy this exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at what’s to come this summer!

Add Some Glamour with a Pair of Dior Sunglasses!

Add Some Glamour with a Pair of Dior Sunglasses!

Whether you’re on or off the slopes this winter, the ‘ski chic’ trend is one that is definitely prominent on the style scene. To compliment your cosied up style this season, all you need to infuse a pop of glamour to your look is a pair of visor style sunglasses. One designer brand that has got the look spot on is super luxe Dior, with it range of Dior sunglasses.

Yes, Dior is definitely the label to rely on when it comes to working the ski chic look. The new Dior Volute 3 sunglasses for example are a style for ladies, boasting an expertly cut and contoured visor lens with the ornate detailing seen on the arms. The hinge comprises of an open circular section and combined with the double stranded arms, this provides an exquisite and luxurious touch to the prominently sporty design.

The Dior Volute 3 sunglasses are also available in a range of colours and textures so you can really tailor the look to Dior Volute 3 Sunglasses - Pink/Purplecompliment your personal style! Examples include a translucent honey frame with silver Dior hinge detailing and a graduated brown visor lens, or for something ultra girly, a pink and purple frame with a silver Dior hinge and a graduated brown visor lens.

Of course, the visor style isn’t for everybody and therefore Dior has a fantastic variety of other styles in the offering including a sophisticated and statement oversized design called the Dior Chicago 1, as well as a chic and vibrant aviator style, the Dior Chicago 2 sunglasses.

Dior is renowned for taking staple styles and perfectly infusing strong elements of glamour, making them beautifully decorative and elegant but also practical and versatile. Dior sunglasses are definitely a must-have for every fashionista on the go this winter – on and off the slopes!

Paris Fashion Week

October 3, 2008
Posted by David

Spreading a little ‘ooh la la’ onto the fashion scene, Paris has spent the past few days hosting the spring / summer 09 fashion week finale. And what a way to end the season; with the likes of Gareth Pugh, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, DIOR and Givenchy all unveiling their forthcoming collections. Once again, accessories were the name of the game and came in every shape and size imaginable. From hats to bags, boots to berets, the designers ticked every accessory box going.

Bag-wise, expect clutches to continue at the top of the charts, seen clasped daintily between model’s hands on the catwalks of Balenciaga, Lacroix and Dries Van Norten. The latter also taking a shine to big, black bug-like shades. And not wanting to be outdone, Karl Lagerfeld persisted with his monochrome palette and popped a pair of dark black circular shades onto models as they headed on down the runway.

Another big player at Lagerfeld and Lacroix and in fact Andrew Gn was the use of cuffs incorporated into the outfit, and we’re not talking cuff detail on clothing either. This is all about separates – think punched-out leather detailing, multicoloured materials and fossil-like adornments. For extra drama, mix with over-sized necklaces and bauble-esque earrings a la Gn, or do as the French do (or should that be Sonia Rykiel) and invest in a cashmere beret – c’est magnifique!

Rykiel also proved that not all sunglasses next spring will be big and bulbous, opting for a 70s white rimmed frame with graduating lens. Hussein Chalayan on the other hand, decided to opt out of using lenses altogether and chose to go all futuristic, using plastic wrap-around glasses that could easily have passed for 3D specs instead.

From head to toe and feet were covered up with candy coloured contraptions at Jean Paul Gaultier, complete with ankle-tie ribbons whilst at Givenchy, over-the-knee boots were the focus footwear, although we’re not sure you’ll get away with them on the beach!

Summer Savers

August 15, 2008
Posted by David

As we hurtle through summer, you can’t fail to notice the new Autumn / Winter trends popping up all around us – in the fashion glossies, on the high street and at red carpet events, but if you haven’t even been away on your summer hols yet, now’s the time to bag yourself a bargain in the sales. And what better way to get a good deal than to go online? No hassling through rails of cheap tat, trying to work out whether you can get an extra 10% discount off that cream ruffled shirt, especially now the lady next to you just put a dirty great footprint on the sleeve – all in a vain attempt to grab that animal print kaftan you had your beady eye on anyway! Oh no, the only way to sale-shop in the noughties is in cyberspace. Plus, with the credit crunch hot on our heels, there’s even more of an excuse to pile that make-believe basket high, because who knows if we’ll even be able to afford a holiday next year, let alone a pair of sunnies or a frock?

In fact, sale shopping online is so easy; you don’t even have to navigate away from this website before you can start saving pounds (not pennies) on designer goods. It’d be rude not to, right? With labels like Dior, Bvlgari, D&G, Gucci, Tom Ford and Prada slashing prices left, right and centre, if you’re lucky, you might even find those purse strings will stretch enough to let you splash out on more than one pair of fashionista frames!

It’s not just us laymen who like to indulge in a little cut-price purchasing either and we can guarantee that whilst you’re searching for some last-minute holiday essentials, there’ll be a whole host of celebs discount digging at the same time. Just because they don’t often get snapped with their bright red SALE carriers, doesn’t mean they don’t relish a reduced rate! Now all you need to do is remember where you hid that ‘emergencies only’ credit card!

Metallic Mash-up

June 21, 2008
Posted by David

This season all that glitters doesn’t have to be gold – a splash of silver can go a long way too. And if you’re looking to add some extra pazazz to your outfit, why not mix those metals and go all out with a shiny showdown.

Your mum might not like it but it’s officially ok to combine the two without it all looking a bit too trashy (no matter how hard you try). Whether you pile on the precious metals in bangle form, or pick out a subtle shimmery clutch, you’ll find the trend will lend itself to every occasion and is one of the easiest ways to update your summer look – fact! Metallic magpies should also keep a beady eye out for multi-metal wedges, watches and sunnies, all of which will look gorgeous when draped over a tanned torso.

Glitterati fans of the recent trend include the oh so stylish Kate Hudson and designer’s dream Victoria Beckham, both of whom have been seen twinkling in the spotlights donning some fabulous silver and gold fashions. But as always, it was the catwalks that kicked off the clash. Dior, Lanvin, Fendi and Burberry all combined pewter tones with burnished bronzes to create show-stopping pieces that ranged from totes to tops.

All that’s left to do now is grab those two-tone treats, jump on that bandwagon and start glamming up your wardrobe!

Face Flatterers

May 16, 2008
Posted by David

In the same way you wouldn’t wear an outfit that didn’t suit your figure, don’t choose sunglasses that won’t flatter your face. Work with what you’ve got and make the most of your features, and resist splashing out on certain styles if you’re only buying them for fashion’s sake. After all, your face is the one part of the body you can’t cover up, and once you’ve planted a pair of whoppers on your mug, there’s no avoiding people’s stares!

So, before you start your sunglasses spree clarify what face shape you have, as it’s this that will distinguish which styles are winners and which are losers…

Round Face

Circular frames will only make your face appear rounder so steer clear of curves and opt for square, angular designs instead as these will make your face appear longer and slimmer.

Circular Celebs: Sophie Ellis Bexter, Kiera Knightley, Drew Barrymore, Charlotte Church

Face Flatterer: Dior Cottage shades

Heart Shaped face

To draw attention away from a wider forehead and narrow chin you need to draw the focus in towards the middle of your face to balance out your features. For this, thin rimmed frames and larger styles will work wonders.

Heart Shaped Heroines: Sophie Dahl, Michelle Pfieffer, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Reese Witherspoon

Face Flatterer: Dolce & Gabbana shades DG2027B

Oval face

Luckily for you anything goes as you’ve been blessed with the face shape that has the most balanced proportions. Experiment with the latest trends or choose squarer frames with rounded off edges if you want a fail-safe solution.

Oval Icons: Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Bosworth, Cat Deeley

Face Flatterer: Fendi shades FS445 207

Square Face

A square face means strong, angular features so round, curved or wrap-around frames look best as they help to soften the face. Classic oval styles will also compliment your characteristics.

Square Faced Superstars: Demi Moore, Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock

Face Flatterer: Stella McCartney shades STM74 LITEQ

Long face

Thin frames are a no-go, but both round and square shapes will look great on long faces. Oversized specs and decorative detailing at the temples will also help to add width to your face.

Long Faced Leading Ladies: Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox

Face Flatterer: Bvlgari shades BV8012B 851/13

Rainbow Brights

May 9, 2008
Posted by David

Move over Mr Tortoiseshell, the primary colours have come out to play! This season the catwalks were bursting with bold and beautiful frames; from aqua marine blue to sunshine yellow, the runways of Marni, Mulberry, Karl Lagerfield and DKNY were awash with kaleidoscopic colour.

But it’s not just the haute couture designers that are championing the trend, Hollywood celebs are paving the way for face framing fashion too. Sienna Miller has stepped out on more than one occasion in her turquoise rims, trendsetter Mary Kate Olsen has opted for orange, while Victoria Beckham prefers to stand out from the crowd in vibrant yellow. However before you invest in a pair of smartie-coloured sunnies, make sure you know which colours suit you most. If you’d never be seen in green, avoid it like the plague, but if pink is part of your palette, it could be an option for you. Remember to consider your hair and skin colour too. If you have blonde hair, darker frames work a treat so try red or navy, but if you’re brunette, yellows, pinks and whites will complement your features best. Another great advantage to blossom from this love affair with all things bright, is the fact that coloured shades show off a tan a treat – what more could you possibly want?

Spoilt for choice over which colour to wear? The specs of the season Rayban Wayfarers have options in a variety of colours including red and pink, DIOR have a fabulous 60s style pair in red panther and Persol are boasting some in deep blue. If you’re not quite ready to brave the brights, baby pink provides a happy medium but if you really can’t face colour, try white instead. Still dazzling enough to make a statement, D&G have a fabulous pair with a pink and chrome cut out.
