It’s a Flouro Summer!

Following a recent jaunt around London’s luxury west end (window shopping naturally), it became obvious that fluorescent clothing and accessories are one of the key looks this season. As lurid as it may sound, half the designers on New and Old Bond Street have said it’s so… DKNY, Micheal Kors, Hermes, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana have all embraced the trend with eye popping day glo window displays. It’s not often that sunglasses are required on an overcast Spring evening, but the windows of W1 were awash with acid colours so bright, dark lenses were entirely necessary!
We draw the line at luminous clothing (some things are best kept in the Eighties) however we can totally get on board with accents of fluorescent colour, if fashion demands it! So how best to wear the acid look? Accessories – including bags, sunglasses, watches, jewellery and shoes, are your best bet (see recent pics of Sienna Miller in her neon shoes or The Saturdays in their LTD Watches). A flash of luminous colour ensures you’re up to date and embracing the trend, but doesn’t scream fashion victim.
This look is great for the summer and particularly successful at festivals. Designer neon sunglasses are fairly hard to come by and you tend to have to buy cheap to wear day-glo shades, but concessions can be made with this fad and colourful sunnies will cut the mustard too… Brands like Carrera and Diesel are perfect for a slice of colour popping. The ‘Thor’ Carrera sunglasses are particularly bright with frames in clear bright pink, purple and blue and a further look through the collection reveals exciting designs with an array of colourful lenses and styles. For a slightly more feminine approach, both Marc Jacobs and Pucci sunglasses, incorporate plenty of colour and look fashionable to boot.

When it comes to watches, no colour is bright enough or too acidic! Like a little piece of sunshine on your wrist, neon watches are playful and hugely on trend this summer. Sporty brands like Adidas, Baby G and Casio, use bright colours often throughout their collections and LTD watches are colour saturated. But for pure fluorescent adulteration new brand Gio-Goi watches is the answer! In shades of neon – green, pink, yellow, orange and blue – these bold watches embrace this seasons flouro trend to a tee!
So the moral is; Accessorise your outfits this Spring / Summer with bursts of fluorescent colour, rather than an all-over neon tan, to avoid looking like an Eighties reject!

Taking inspiration from the fashion, design, flare and cool characters of the 1970s, these retro beauties have ‘cult fashion accessory’ written all over them! Combining Nike’s 21st Century technological expertise with a rad Seventies design is inspired thinking.
The Seventies are back in a big way this year, with catwalks awash with floaty, hippie, bright colours for women and now men can get in on the act with dedicated retro sunglasses. In a similar vein to Carrera sunglasses, Nike Vintage sunglasses have a very familiar design with oversized lenses and large acetate or carbon frames. There are several different designs within the collection, but all sport a similar retro, sporty vibe, with slight alterations between them.
The colours are Seventies fantastic too. Shades of red, yellow, blue and brown, along with a more formal black and white complete the range and for the more confident male, a smashing pair of tortoiseshell shades…

2011 Fashion Trends

Fashionistas sit up and take note! Those in the know have made their style predictions for the year ahead and it’s looking like another vintage inspired annum…
The following trends are going to be hot in 2011 and as always Shade Station have got the perfect pair of sunglasses to compliment all of fashion’s fancies.
Seventies
With the return of Biba and Halston in 2010, it was clear the era that gave us Studio 54, platform shoes and Saturday Night Fever was going to have a big impact on 2011. Already the high street is awash with flowing skirts, pleated culottes, retro colours, flares, headscarves and oversized sunglasses. In it’s new year edition Heat magazine encouraged readers to stock up on super-sized shades and Vogue.co.uk predict sunglasses to take on “exaggerated shapes…. the new shades have a quirky retro feel”. To channel Farrah Fawcett in her Seventies heyday, super-cool brand D Squared sunglasses would achieve the desired effect. And lovely Pucci sunglasses are also ‘very of the era’.
Ladylike Sixties and Pretty Fifties
With the midi skirt the length du jour, the full circle skirt remaining popular and pointed kitten heels replacing towering heels, 2011 looks set to be a refined year. In terms of accessorising your prim but pretty outfit, Fashionising.com suggest cat’s eyes sunglasses are the shape to be focusing on. Check out our vintage sunglasses section or our Marc Jacobs sunglasses and Tom Ford Sunglasses for feline shapes. For classic Fifties and sixties oversized sunnies hit our Chanel, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and BVLGARI sunglasses pages!
Animal Print
Another trend that is hanging on for dear life… Seemingly more popular than ever this year, shops are bursting with leopard prints, zebra, tiger and ever giraffe! If you’re wearing animal print on your person we would kindly suggest not wearing matching sunglasses and instead choose a pair of big sedate black or brown shades. However if you need to jazz up your outfit with a little print there’s plenty of tortoiseshell to go around! Almost all of the designer labels at Shade Station have tortoiseshell sunglasses on offer, however we particularly like Ray Ban’s tortoiseshell Way Farer sunglasses and Oliver Peoples shades too.
White and Orange
Maybe it’s because of the whole Seventies vibe going on, that both white and orange feature so strongly this year… whatever the reason it’s nice to see some bold colour on the catwalk. Ray Ban sunglasses are always on trend with their bright colours and Marc Jacobs sunglasses, Carrera sunglasses and Von Zipper sunglasses have some great styles with white frames too.
These are our pick of the big trends for 2011 so whatever look you fancy trying, remember, we’ve always got the best selection of sunglasses to compliment your style!

Carrera Cool-Carrera Sunglasses

Carrera was born out of a desire to create sunglasses and accessories for sports, primarily for people within motor sports, winter sports and cycling. Launched in 1956, the company name is Spanish for ‘race’ and pays homage to the ‘Carrera Panamericana’ Mexican road race of the 1950s.
Although designed for sport, Carrera have won over the fashion crowd to staggering effect. Helped by the likes of Kylie Minogue, Kanye West and David Beckham, Carrera is no longer just a company with a solid base in the sports industry, it’s become a byword for cool looking sunglasses.
Worn by celebrities and hipsters alike, Carrera sunglasses have surged in popularity in recent years. Whether it’s Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, wearing his Carrera ‘Jocker’s’, Lady GaGa posing wearing ‘Champion’ Carrera sunglasses in her ‘Bad Romance’ music video or Gwen Stefani out and about in her white ‘Safari’ style Carrera sunglasses, Carrera has truly become a global phenomenon. The trickle down effect is evident as music festivals, gigs and hip hang-outs are awash with people sporting Carrera sunglasses.
Although the most frequently worn ‘Champion’ Carrera sunglasses are based on the familiar aviator design, they have a unique retro style. With over sized plastic frames, the Carrera logo on the bridge and a unisex design, these sunglasses provide the wearer with a Carrera cool look! There are many different styles of sunglasses within the Carrera portfolio and considering how popular they are, the price of a pair of shades is extraordinarily reasonable – at Shade Station you won’t pay more than £72. I think you’ll agree with us that it’s unusual to get sunglasses with such quality, style and pedigree for such a competitive price!

Carrera Featured in Alicia Keys’ New Music Video

The Carrera brand though noted for its funky and highly trendy style, was founded in 1956 and the company produces a range of sports eyewear including ski helmets, goggles and sunglasses. The Carrera name was inspired by the ‘Carrera Panamerica’ which is a car race that covers the whole of Mexico. The spirit of Carrera is very much of the philosophy that its wearers have a huge passion and enthusiasm for sports and maintain the desire to be the best.
Carrera sunglasses are definitely one of the most fashion-forward of all of the sunglasses brands, especially those within the sports/fashion sector. The sunglasses are retro in style with funky and contemporary edges and are worn by a number of celebrities including Paris Hilton and Kanye West.
Carrera has very recently announced that one of the new frames within its collection, the Panamerika 1 design will be included in 12-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and producer Alicia Keys’ new music video. The song from her new album ‘The Element of Freedom’ is called ‘Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart’, which is being released on December 15th. The theme of the video shows Keys as a superhero, sporting the
Panamerika 1 Carrera shades.
These particular sunglasses are incredibly retro in style with a distinct 80’s aesthetic and are part of Carrera’s recently relaunched vintage collection and look spectacular in the new video. Another video in which you may recognise the Carrera brand is in Lady Gaga’s new track Bad Romance. We see the pop diva rocking the super stylish Champion Carrera sunglasses which fit perfectly into the abstract and surreal nature of the video which sees Lady Gaga performing within a somewhat controversial and risqué setting.
The Champion Carrera sunglasses are a further highly stylish part of the collection and are again, retro in style and reminiscent of an oversized aviator. The white versions are incredibly cool and also feature the trademark Carrera red line across the top section of the frame. The Carrera brand is
always successful in maintaining the core retro style but adding injections of contemporary elements such as bold and fresh colour. The fact that it is the chosen brand to be featured in high profile music videos by iconic artists is testament to how popular and fashion forward Carrera is regarded.
There are some hot new styles to look out for this season which include some classic aviator styles with vibrant lens and frame colours such as the Gypsy in addition to some striking sporty styles with that high trend edge such as the Jocker/T sunglasses in hot pink. Carrera sunglasses definitely make a style statement and should be worn with confidence and attitude! The brand is geared towards the theme of striving to be the best and you will definitely be the leader of the style pack whilst working a pair of these!

Carrera Sunglasses – Sporty, Stylish & Made for Athletes

The iconic Carrera Panamericana Mexican car race is the inspiration behind the name of Carrera sunglasses which were first launched in 1953 in Austria. The brand is renowned for its exceptional attention to detail and when designing its products, everything is developed internally by a dedicated Research & Development department in Padua, Italy.
Carrera sunglasses comprise of three main elements, all of which contribute to the high standards and prestigious nature of the brand. These are the design, the technical innovation and the raw sporting theme. A typical wearer of Carrera sunglasses is always on-the-go, enjoys an active lifestyle and is fast paced. The brand maintains a strong principle of achieving success and it is that competitive nature that makes Carrera sunglasses loved by so many all over the world who like to convey that in their style.
During the process of product development, the sunglasses are tested both in the laboratory and by athletes during competitions and training to make sure that the Carrera sunglasses meet the technical innovation standards needed to make them durable and effective.
The range of Carrera sunglasses are very specific and distinctive in style and boast the following aesthetic features-:
- Sports style frames – With large lenses that feature a straight top edge, the style of all Carrera sunglasses have a retro sport feel. Depending on the style of sunglasses, this varies slightly; the Safari sunglasses (as worn by Paris Hilton) are smaller than the Olympia 1 style for example. The Easy Driver sunglasses are a little more aviator style with the two lenses separated with a t-bar.
- Colour – An injection of strong bold colour is also what makes Carrera sunglasses unique to the brand and this is incorporated on the frames, ear socks and the lenses. The Hot sunglasses for example have a vibrant red frame and red ear socks whilst the Easy Driver sunglasses feature violet lenses and ear socks with a white top bar. The colour combinations are complimentary of one another and again, have a sporty feel but with a bang on trend edge.
With any sports orientated product, function and style must be balanced accordingly as with sunglasses especially; you need them to be durable, able to endure physical activity and impact and maximise performance by providing you with clear vision. Carrera therefore places such great important on the research and development phases to ensure that as well as looking great, the sunglasses will really go the distance and the brand is now respected as premium and one of the major players in the sports fashion industry. At prices ranging from between approximately £57 and £68, you really can’t go wrong and with celebrities such as the Beckhams and Paris Hilton often spotted wearing them, you know that these are a genuinely super stylish pair of shades!
Designed for those who enjoy sports or want to look trendy whilst on the go, Carrera sunglasses are distinctive yet simple in style which is ultimately what makes them so popular. In unisex styles that look equally great on men and women, with strong colour, funky frames and lenses designed to fully protect your eyes and endure impact, Carrera sunglasses are definitely top of their game.

The Carrera Comeback. Carrera Sunglasses.

The Carrera sunglasses brand is an example of a perfect collaboration between sport and style and is highly inspired the annual car race Carrera Panamericana that stretches across Mexico. As a brand Carrera aims to tell a story and the typical wearer is said to be adventurous, spontaneous and enthusiastic.
Indeed, originally intended for a specific sports purpose, Carrera sunglasses have transcended themselves into the fashion world and are regularly spotted adorning the faces of Hollywood’s biggest names in addition to the world’s finest athletes. The style is retro with a modern edge and the Carerra Champion Shades, for example, in white and red in one sense look incredibly chic a la aviator style but the
colouring and distinct design of the frames definitely injects a cool sporty edge. Rapper T.I. made a huge impact when he donned a pair of Carrera Champion sunglasses in white at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, while Kanye West also allegedly paid $15,000 to get the latest Carrera collection before it went on sale in the United States.
Carerra shades were hugely popular in the 80’s and as 2009 is all about reviving old trends, particularly the 1980’s, this brand are racing their way to the forefront of the fashion industry. It was for this reason that Carrera decided to release their popular plastic-framed aviators in a variety of different colours. The retro frames are available in combination colours of white, blue, black, yellow, turquoise, white, and red, all with the trademark gradient lens. ![]()
The recent Carerra launch party held in New York was a huge success and saw stars such as Agyness Deyn, Richie Rich, Tyson Beckford, Daisy Lowe and Patricia Field. All the cool kids are rocking Carerra shades this season and when function and fashion come this good, it would be a shame not to jump on the bandwagon!

We Love Lilo
Lindsay Lohan is never out of the papers with tales about drinking and drug abuse, but it would seem while her mum and sister are jumping on the reality TV bandwagon, Lindsay’s changing her ways – for the better.
The singer-cum-model-cum-actress who has a reputation for pulling sickies left, right and centre has shocked everyone by showing up early at the studios to film her new movie – Labour Pains. According to co-stars she’s even learnt all her lines and has made some sturdy friendships on and off set.
It could be put down to Lilo’s levels of maturity, after all, she turned 22 just last week, however it’s rumoured the change in personality could be a result of the stabilising effect of Mark Ronson’s sister – Samantha. Rarely seen without each other, Lindsay seems to have lost her taste for men – big style!
One thing that’s not changed with her new-found sobriety is her style. A huge fan of aviators, Lindsay’s been spotted in a pair on every occasion- don’t forget sunglasses are the must-have accessory for hiding tired, hungover peepers, and we all know Lindsay loves a good drink.
If you’re trying to avoid the bright lights of the paparazzi, why not ‘do a Lilo’ and choose some aviators as your saviour specs. For versatility, Carerra, D&G and Marc Jacobs all have plenty of styles to choose from in various frame and lens colours. A great daytime sunglasses style, they look just as good on the beach as they do the streets.
