Shade Station Photoshoot

Here at Shade Station, we’re already preparing for the summer season and recently held an exciting photoshoot showcasing an array of some of the hottest sunglasses and watches that are either available to buy now or will be in stock over the next month. The photos will be up on the site soon, but we thought we’d show you a sneak peek at some of the images and the designs to look forward to this summer!

We had two models who did a superb job of making our sunglasses and watches look effortlessly stylish! First we had Marcus, who aside from being a model is also in the band The Council, and Erica who beautifully modelled a wide selection of looks ranging from Hollywood glamour inspired to boho chic.

Shade Station PhotoshootThe brands appearing in the shoot included Ray-Ban, Tom Ford, Prada, Gucci, Adidas, Diesel, DKNY and Chanel to name only a few and the creative themes we selected were perfect to represent a cool and laid-back summer vibe!

The key sunglass styles to look out for this season definitely include oversized designs (for both men and women) as seen within the Tom Ford, BVLGARI, Dior and Oliver Peoples collections, sporty, as demonstrated in the Carrera, Dragon and Oakley ranges and colourful and retro – including Ray-Ban, Jee Vice, Pucci and Marc by Marc Jacobs. For watches, you still can’t go wrong with glitzy and glamorous using Guess watches and Juicy Couture watches as the perfect Shade Station Photoshootexamples, and also for the ladies, androgynous watches are a hot look, as seen in the collection of Fossil watches.

You’ll definitely be able to get a feel for the looks and trends when the pictures go live on our site but meanwhile, we hope you enjoy this exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at what’s to come this summer!

Festival Sunglasses Trends 2010

June 9, 2010
Posted by David

Summer is officially here, the sun is shining and we couldn’t be happier! With the warmer months comes the usual smorgasbord of amazing festivals to get your hedonistic thrills at. Whether you enjoy moshing at ‘Download’, country pursuits at ‘The Green Man’, teenage kicks at ‘V Festival’, fancy dress at ‘Bestival’, glamour at newbie ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ or the mystic of ‘Glastonbury’, you must ensure you’re dressed for the occasion.

Festivals, fashionable summer gear and cool sunglasses all go hand in hand. Maybe it’s the influence of Gaga or perhaps Dita Von Teese, but this summer is all about kooky and vintage. With styles from the Fifties and Sixties making a comeback, we predict this year’s festivals to be awash with vintage shaped sunglasses in a cat’s eye style or small round frames, oversized sunglasses in reds, greens and brown and retro-looking shades.

The festival season kicked off with April’s Coachella Festival in California, where a host of celebrities dazzled with their fashionable threads and on-trend sunglasses. Kelly Osborne was spotted wearing small round framed lilac sunglasses, Katy Perry went retro in angular black frames with a bold white stripe across the top, Dita Von Teese personified Fifties elegance in oversized brown sunglasses with graduated lenses and Kate Bosworth dressed to impress in classic Ray Ban Aviators.

Aviators and Wayfarers from Ray Ban transcend fashion and will always be popular and current. For classic sunglasses you can’t go wrong with either of these styles for festival frolicking. The same goes for oversized glam shades. Designers like Gucci, Bvlgari, Versace, D&G, MDG Sunglasses, Chanel and Pucci all have great sunglasses for summer goddess style. On the other hand if you’re a seasonal type of girl with a desire to look fabulous and ‘now’ – take a leaf from Kelly O’s book and opt for small round shades. This style was all over the spring / summer catwalks and looks great in pastel coloured frames teamed with a floral frock or playsuit. Or you may want to play the vintage diva with cats eye shaped sunglasses – again a strong trend on the catwalk this year. Look to brands like Prada and Marc Jacobs to achieve this look.

We’ve got our Big Chill tickets and our festival sunnies sorted. Now it’s just a case of praying for sunshine! Here’s hoping….

Boldly Glamorous BVLGARI Sunglasses

BVLGARI sunglasses are the perfect choice for all you ladies who like to add a super glamorous, sophisticated and bold finish to your look. These shades are all about being unafraid of expressing your style and are loved for their exquisite aesthetics, exceptional quality and intrinsic attention to fine detailing.

Possessing the essence of fine Italian style, BVLGARI sunglasses are designed for ladies who like to distinguish their look and personality with the use of statement accessories. They are renowned for their artistic designs and the ability to convey a classic and sophisticated look that shows a refined sense of style.

There are a couple of new BVLGARI styles to look out for this season; the first being the new BV6037 design, which in typical BVLGARI style, is oversized and features a striking off-gold toned frame which extends slightly outside of the lenses (a key trend seen on sunglasses over the past few seasons) and also curves inwards at the exterior edges to add shape and definition. The arms incorporate beautiful diamante hinge detailing which instantly injects an ultra feminine and elegant edge and the lenses are a soft graduated brown tone – perfect for spring and summer whereby you may prefer a lighter toned pair of sunglasses.

A further style to look out for is the exclusive BV8038B pair of BVLGARI sunglasses which again are oversized and feature a thick jet black frame and wide jet black arms with the prominent aesthetic feature being the bold diamante embellished version of the BVLGARI logo elaborately displayed across the length of the arm. This style is also available in brown and bronze tortoiseshell. What is great about BVLGARI sunglasses is that they typically feature one striking element and keep the remainder of the design simple so that the attention to immediately drawn to only one aspect and keeps the overall look of the sunglasses chic but statement.

A vast array of celebrities love the glamorous style of BVLGARI sunglasses – these including Victoria Beckham, Penelope Cruz, Tara Reid and Jennifer Aniston to name only a few. With a wide variety of coloured frames (including a selection of lighter toned styles for summer) and designs including oversized, visors and wraparounds, BVLRAGI is definitely the perfect brand choice if you want to add an instant element of dramatic Italian style to your look. A pair of BVLGARI sunglasses will make you feel ultra feminine, polished and elegant and also allow you to stand out from the crowd in the most uniquely fashion forward way possible!

Beautiful BVLGARI Sunglasses

December 12, 2009

BVLGARI may be renowned for its super glamorous, chic and highly fashionable style, but the brand in fact has a significant history that stems back to over 100 years ago. The Bulgari family descend from a line of Greek silversmiths who began trading silver objects in a village named Epirus over a century ago. The family founder was a man named Sotirio Bulgari.

At the end of the 19th century, Sotirio Bulgari and his family relocated his family to Italy with the hope of the business being more lucrative and in 1884 he opened his first shop on the via Sistina in Rome. In 1905, Bulgari and his sons, Costantino and Giorgio, opened a shop in via Condotti, which still today is the BVLGARI flagship store. The sons continued the family passion and learnt the craft more extensively becoming experts in precious stones, jewels and watch making. As the years progressed, they took over the business from Sotirio, using their skills to expand and widen the product ranges.

BVLGARI today is noted and favoured for its chic, sophisticated, and cutting edge style. Despite the brand continually evolving for over one hundred years, it is constantly successful in maintaining a fashion forward appeal with each and every product highly on trend and incredibly stylish. Part of the BVLGARI collection includes the range of sunglasses which are designed to create a unique and individual style that has an exclusive association.

BVLGARI sunglasses can be described as creative and artistic with super glamorous designs and dramatic styles that still remain classically chic. The use of striking diamante stones and colour is also common throughout the collection and these sunglasses are the perfect style expression. BVLGARI sunglasses have an innovative style that defy seasonal trends but always appear right at the forefront of fashion, constantly being featured on the style pages and on every fashionista’s wish list. The brand also maintains its original values of sourcing the finest materials and technologies to create the highest quality product possible which is also why BVLGARI is favoured on a worldwide scale. Ultimately BVLGARI is designed for men and women who appreciate a classic look with creative spirit and a unique style injection – this is part of what defines BVLGARI from other luxury brands.

BVLGARI is still today heavily inspired by Greek and Roman culture, Italian Renaissance, and the 19th century Roman school of goldsmiths which is also conveyed through the stunning design of each and every product.

Summer Savers

August 15, 2008
Posted by David

As we hurtle through summer, you can’t fail to notice the new Autumn / Winter trends popping up all around us – in the fashion glossies, on the high street and at red carpet events, but if you haven’t even been away on your summer hols yet, now’s the time to bag yourself a bargain in the sales. And what better way to get a good deal than to go online? No hassling through rails of cheap tat, trying to work out whether you can get an extra 10% discount off that cream ruffled shirt, especially now the lady next to you just put a dirty great footprint on the sleeve – all in a vain attempt to grab that animal print kaftan you had your beady eye on anyway! Oh no, the only way to sale-shop in the noughties is in cyberspace. Plus, with the credit crunch hot on our heels, there’s even more of an excuse to pile that make-believe basket high, because who knows if we’ll even be able to afford a holiday next year, let alone a pair of sunnies or a frock?

In fact, sale shopping online is so easy; you don’t even have to navigate away from this website before you can start saving pounds (not pennies) on designer goods. It’d be rude not to, right? With labels like Dior, Bvlgari, D&G, Gucci, Tom Ford and Prada slashing prices left, right and centre, if you’re lucky, you might even find those purse strings will stretch enough to let you splash out on more than one pair of fashionista frames!

It’s not just us laymen who like to indulge in a little cut-price purchasing either and we can guarantee that whilst you’re searching for some last-minute holiday essentials, there’ll be a whole host of celebs discount digging at the same time. Just because they don’t often get snapped with their bright red SALE carriers, doesn’t mean they don’t relish a reduced rate! Now all you need to do is remember where you hid that ‘emergencies only’ credit card!

Face Flatterers

May 16, 2008
Posted by David

In the same way you wouldn’t wear an outfit that didn’t suit your figure, don’t choose sunglasses that won’t flatter your face. Work with what you’ve got and make the most of your features, and resist splashing out on certain styles if you’re only buying them for fashion’s sake. After all, your face is the one part of the body you can’t cover up, and once you’ve planted a pair of whoppers on your mug, there’s no avoiding people’s stares!

So, before you start your sunglasses spree clarify what face shape you have, as it’s this that will distinguish which styles are winners and which are losers…

Round Face

Circular frames will only make your face appear rounder so steer clear of curves and opt for square, angular designs instead as these will make your face appear longer and slimmer.

Circular Celebs: Sophie Ellis Bexter, Kiera Knightley, Drew Barrymore, Charlotte Church

Face Flatterer: Dior Cottage shades

Heart Shaped face

To draw attention away from a wider forehead and narrow chin you need to draw the focus in towards the middle of your face to balance out your features. For this, thin rimmed frames and larger styles will work wonders.

Heart Shaped Heroines: Sophie Dahl, Michelle Pfieffer, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Reese Witherspoon

Face Flatterer: Dolce & Gabbana shades DG2027B

Oval face

Luckily for you anything goes as you’ve been blessed with the face shape that has the most balanced proportions. Experiment with the latest trends or choose squarer frames with rounded off edges if you want a fail-safe solution.

Oval Icons: Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Bosworth, Cat Deeley

Face Flatterer: Fendi shades FS445 207

Square Face

A square face means strong, angular features so round, curved or wrap-around frames look best as they help to soften the face. Classic oval styles will also compliment your characteristics.

Square Faced Superstars: Demi Moore, Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock

Face Flatterer: Stella McCartney shades STM74 LITEQ

Long face

Thin frames are a no-go, but both round and square shapes will look great on long faces. Oversized specs and decorative detailing at the temples will also help to add width to your face.

Long Faced Leading Ladies: Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox

Face Flatterer: Bvlgari shades BV8012B 851/13
