Diesel 'Be Stupid' Ad Banned from Billboards

Fashion label Diesel has always being notorious for its outspoken brand personality and ability to stand out from the crowd. However, it seems that Diesel may have gone a step too far with one of its recent advertising billboard campaigns which has now being banned from use.

The posters, which in fact, won a top award at the Cannes advertising festival, were banned due to the fear that they would encourage antisocial behaviour. The ads called ‘Be Stupid’ featured a woman flashing her breasts to a CCTV camera, and another of a woman opening her bikini bottoms to take a picture. We can certainly see why the ads have raised concern but you do have to admire Diesel’s bold attitude! The brand has stated that the ads were designed to convey “a very strong and unexpected image of femininity”.

However, luckily all is not lost and you can still see the ads for yourself as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have allowed the ads to run in magazines including Grazia and Dazed & Confused but have banned them running on billboards as are of the view that they may be considered offensive and unsuitable for children in addition to potentially encouraging antisocial behaviour.

Whatever your opinion on the ad campaigns, one thing is for sure about Diesel; the brand is producing some amazing collections this season and in particular, the range of Diesel watches. The new styles are ultra stylish, slick and smart with some designs such as the unisex DZ1351 boasting a vibrant red finish and with that sporty but chic look that is one of the top watch trends of the moment but one that Diesel still manages to place its own dynamic stamp on. This watch style is also available in an array of other colours. The new DZ1343 for men has a similar style to the DZ1351 but with a brown leather strap and a square dial for a smart and slick finish and with the striking Diesel detailing on the dial.

The ‘Be Stupid’ Diesel ads may certainly be a little risqué but you have to admire the brand’s creative ability to dare to be different. Most importantly, Diesel always backs up its elaborate advertising campaigns with amazing products.
