Sneak-a-Peek: Oakley Summit Frogskins Sunglasses

July 26, 2012
Posted by Dan

The 1980s was a fantastic era for styling classics…well, maybe not the shell-suit! But anyway, there was one fashion statement which has made a huge resurgence recently, the Oakley Frogskins Sunglasses. Originally released in1985, the Frogskins had 50 colour-ways and were available for $40.00. Over 20 years later, Oakley re-released the sunglass goliath and this year, they have released the limited edition Oakley Summit Frogskins Sunglasses.

They are a limited edition range, all with beautiful matte and metallic colours. The frame is made from Oakley’s patented O Matter material; a light a durable compound which is incredibly stress resistant. One of Oakley’s main accomplishments is creating sunglasses which are tested to the same standards as industrial eyewear, and O Matter is the foundation for all of this. It absorbs impact and dissipates the vibrations down the arms and away from the sunglasses and your face; this makes Oakley Sunglasses the favourite for a lot of athletes.

Of course, along with unrivaled protection from impact, your eyes must be protected from the sun’s harmful rays. This is where Oakley’s patented Plutonite lens material comes in very handy, the compound itself is completely UVA, UVB and UVC protective meaning that even if the lenses are scratched, scuffed or damaged, your eyes will still be protected! It is the same Plutonite material which facilitates Oakley’s XYZ and HD Optics. This technology corrects any refraction of light through the lens providing the user with clear, sharp and undistorted vision; so say goodbye to those annoying ’sunglass headaches’.

If you are looking for something a little more colourful this year, then take a look at the Oakley Summit Frogskins Sunglasses. Available in 5 different colour-ways, we are sure that you will find one that suits!

P-P-P-Pick up an Original Penguin!

Posted by Dan

Original Penguin Watches have an incredibly rich history which dates right back to the 1950s, when ambitious salesman Abbot Pedersen stumbled upon a stuffed penguin by chance that spawned a brand which was to become globally recognised as one of the world’s most iconic. Synonymous with superstars such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Arnold Palmer, Clint Eastwood and Richard Nixon, to name a few, it is easy to see why their watches are due to adorn the wrists of thousands of stylish people this summer!

Original Penguin watches have become known for their quality, style and image. The aptly named Pete the Penguin is the sign of such excellence and his presence on their products is the symbol that it meets the brand’s impeccable standards. Most of the models come fitted with a quartz movement, designed to keep time for as long as you want to keep the watch and the modern styling makes them certified future classic. Fantastically creative mixtures of colours and shapes have attracted the attention of many and since 2000, the brand has been thrust back into the limelight once again. In 2003, this vast new audience led to the rebirth of an Original Penguin by Munsingwear, and an alliance with an international fashion house. Penguin’s range of mid-century classics was reworked to reflect today’s lifestyle without compromising the heritage or craftsmanship that had made Penguin’s name.

The full range is expected to hit the cyber shelves this Autumn and we have little information as to how they will exactly look at this point…except that Pete the Penguin will feature heavily. Flowing shapes with classic materials are expected and a very good standard of craftsmanship is a given. Click here to visit our Original Penguin Watches page and enter your email to be informed as and when we receive them.

Oakley New Release Sunglasses – Lake Como July 2012

July 25, 2012
Posted by David

Oakley Sculpture Lake ComoShade Stations’ buying team had a treat in July 2012, not only did we get to view the new Oakley sunglasses styles first, we got to do it at the Oakley showroom on the shores of Lake Como in north Italy.

The weather was fantastic, as was the display put on by Oakley. To all intensive purposes the stand was a pop up Oakley store built entirely to showcase the new products. The picture is a sculpture of Oscar Pistorius who is competing at both the Olympics and Paralympics, and is one of the stars of the most recent Oakley ad campaign, ‘Beyond Reason’. The sculpture is made entirely from Oakley sunglasses lenses.

New products viewed and selected included, Garage Rock, Big Taco, and several new ladies styles including Forehand, Backhand and Twentysix 2. A new collection of Frogskins was also launched call the Summit collection, which feature a new matt metallic finish.

The trip was both enjoyable and exciting and we can’t wait for the product to start to arrive, most of which is expected in October, but is available to preorder now.

New Oakley Radarlock Releases

Posted by Dan

How can you improve on an almost perfect pair of sports specific sunglasses? This is a question Oakley must have been thinking long and hard about as they have managed the almost impossible and updated the Oakley Radarlock Sunglasses to make them that little bit better! The new Oakley Radarlock XL Sunglasses and Oakley Radarlock XL Straight Sunglasses have been designed specifically for use by cyclists and we think that you will be seeing a lot of them in and around cycling events next year. New innovations are combined with original Oakley technology to create an almost unsurpassable set of sunglasses. In this blog we will be focusing on what makes them so different to the original Oakley Radarlock Sunglasses and more importantly how they go above and beyond the call of sports sunglass duty.

Say what you see. The new Oakley Radarlock XL Sunglasses are just that…XL. Oakley have added a larger lens to the Radarlocks to aid the classic cycling stance of being hunched right over your handlebars. It is a common problem for cyclists that adopt this aerodynamic approach as sunlight has been known to creep in above the lens and distort your vision, which can be a very real issue for competitive sports men and women. Whilst travelling at upwards of 20mph, being blinded for a matter of seconds can have catastrophic consequences and it is no surprise that Oakley have heeded the calls of cyclists the world over. The new taller lens completely covers the top of your eyes, stopping any sunlight from weaning it’s way in. Of course, they still come with all of Oakley’s technology as standard including the game changing switchlock innovation which has seen the Oakley Radarlocks take off to sunglass stardom.

I’m sure a lot of you will have been following the Tour de France this year as British cyclist Bradley Wiggins stormed to victory, with Chris Froome putting in a valiant effort for second place! To these amazing athletes comfortable eyewear is essential for a good race and with the Tour covering a massive 3,497 kilometres, the Oakley Radarlock Sunglasses were the natural choice. But now, Oakley have taken comfort to a new level introducing the Oakley Radarlock XL Straight Sunglasses. The new straight arms fit snugly underneath an aero helmet and will not cause any unwanted discomfort and they also boast the XL lens for perfect coverage making them the obvious choice for any competitive cyclist. As with all Oakley sports sunglasses, they come with unobtanium earsocks; Oakley’s patented rubber which grips to your head when wet and will not pull on your hair, along with the unrivaled clarity and protection of High Definition Optics® (HDO®) for taking performance beyond the limits of reason.

If you cycle to cycle to any sort of standard you will find the new Oakley Radarlock XL Sunglasses and Oakley Radarlock XL Straight Sunglasses to be an absolute revolution in comfort, style and more importantly practicality. Both styles are due for release in October and are available to pre-order right here at Shade Station today!

Mel and Shade Station at the Paralympics

My name is Mel Clarke, I am 29 years old, and currently training to compete with the Great British Paralympic Team in my second Paralympic games, in London 2012.  My sport is Archery, and I have been competing for GB since 2002, in which time I have won County, National, Regional, European and World titles, medals and Championships.

My first Paralympics was Beijing in 2008 – and it was a huge honour to compete for GB, and even greater to succeed in winning a bronze medal at my first games.

My training for the games is going well, I am working hard to be the best I can be, and have just returned from competing at an International Invitational event held at Stoke Mandeville where I won two gold medals – a great start and confidence boost this close to what will be one of the greatest sporting events of my life.

Shade Station have been a huge help, supporting me with Oakley sunglasses, which – with archery being an aiming sport are obviously a vital item to help me when training and competing.  As a visually impaired athlete also, being able to use the highest quality products to protect my vision when I compete is incredible important to me, and I know that the fantastic support of Shade Station is adding to my medal chances in London this year.

I can’t wait to compete in the London Paralympics – to be representing Great Britain on ‘home soil’ with my family and friends supporting at the games is going to be incredible, and it’s getting very exciting as we have just passed the ’50 days to go mark’……. Here’s to a great games…..

Oakley Sunglasses at The Tour de France 2012

Bradley Wiggins Wearing Oakley Radarlock

Bradley Wiggins Wearing Oakley Radarlock

First staged in 1903 and approximately covering 2000 miles over a three week period the Tour de France is one of the most prolific bicycle races in the racing calendar.  Being one of the three main “grand tours” riders compete for various accomplishments including king of the mountains; the best rider over the mountain stages and the yellow jersey; the fastest rider over the whole tour.  After each stage the fastest man at that time wears the yellow jersey into the next stage.  This can be a mental advantage over other riders and lets them know this is the guy to beat.

Riders work in teams to take the pressure off the main riders.  If you are British the team to watch this year would be Sky.  The Sky team consist of mainly British riders including the two big names in British cycling; Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish.  Bradley Wiggins is the current yellow jersey holder and has held it for the past week and a half.  He mainly has Chris Froome to thank for this for his fast pace setting and dedication to Bradley.  Chris and Bradley managed to keep on the wheel of the only other main rival of this years tour Vincenzo Nibali.  As long as they keep on his wheel for the next few days Bradley should keep the yellow Jersey until Paris which is obviously Sky’s plan.

If you have ever seen the Tour de France it is very hard to spot a rider who is not wearing Oakley Sunglasses.  Oakley is massive at the Tour de France and most riders choose something from the Radar selection.  Many of the riders this year including Bradley Wiggins have chosen to wear the new Oakley Radarlock sunglasses.  Radarlock offer easy lens changeability and a wide lens which offers a wide peripheral vision.  Wiggin’s teammate Chris Froome is one of the only riders wearing the Oakley Racing Jackets.  All new Oakley Racing Jackets are the new and updated Jawbones.  They are quite small compared to the Radar selections although they still offer easy lens changeability and a wide selection of lenses to choose from.  Chris Froome this year has chosen a polished white frame with a violet iridium lens.

Other sunglasses which will be spotted next year are the Oakley Radarlock XL which is a must with most cyclists.  The lens is stretched higher than the normal Radar selection so when you have your head down and are pushing for the win you are not looking at the top bar of the frame.  The arms on the Oakley Radarlock XL Straight are designed to be as straight as possible and are a perfect fit under most Aero helmets.  The Radarlock XL selection will be available with Shade Station in October so sit tight and you can have a pair soon.

Oakley are the best in the business for cycling and anyone interested in and competing in this sport needs a pair.

Rory wearing Oakley Fast Jackets

The professional golfing tour is at its busiest period with Oakley Sunglasses making another appearance at a big sporting event. With two of the four Major tournaments having already been played, the most anticipated one is finally here. The UK Open was the first ever Major to be played on the professional golfer’s tour and is the only Major tournament to be held outside of America.  Originally won by Willie Park Senior in 1860 the UK Open has been played every single year since then making it the oldest golfing Major on the planet.

Consisting of four rounds around the weather beaten courses of Great Britain the best golfers currently playing in the world will play until someone crowns themselves the UK Open Champion and lift the unique Claret Jug.  This year

The Open is being played at Royal Lytham and St. Anne’s based in Lancashire.  The UK Open has been played here ten times previous to this weekend.  The undulating greens and hard placed bunkers are a test for anyone not least the professionals who are trying to score under par.  Shaping of the ball will be a necessity this weekend.  Tiger Woods has quoted the following this week showing even the best in the business struggle:

“It’s just that you can’t get out of the rough. That bottom six inches, in some places is almost unplayable,”

“I’ve never seen the rough this high or thick and dense.”

Since 1860 there has been many different winners of the UK Open including this weekends favourite Tiger Woods who has previously won this tournament 3 times.  Great Britain also has some hopeful’s looking to bag this weekend’s most prolific championship.  World number one Luke Donald is currently in good form with a good finish at last weeks Scottish Open.  He will be hoping to impress this weekend.

Other players flying the Flag for Great Britain are Oakley sponsors Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy who have both been shouting about the new and updated Oakley Fast Jackets.  The new Fast Jackets have the Switchlock technology integrated into them which most golfers will love for its easy lens changeability.  Oakley Fast Jackets also come with the G30 lens, this lens is specifically designed for golfers giving them increased contrast and making their eyes work less.

All of Oakley’s Sports Performance range comes with many different lens options to choose from to help maximise overall performance and visibility.  Other Oakley favourites for the UK Open will include the best in the range Flak Jacket, the entry level Half Jacket 2.0 and the newly released Radarlock which will also feature hugely at this years London Olympics.
