Designed in a spectrum of bright, funky colours these on trend watches have ‘summer fun’ written all over them. As predicted the stars have caught the Ltd Watch ‘bug’ and this month’s T4 on the Beach in Weston-Super-Mare saw a host of celebrities sporting them.

Bonkers favourite, Dizzee Rascal, performed to an audience of thousands wearing his Ltd watch, as did Scotsman Calvin Harris and Girls Aloud pretenders, The Saturdays.

The beauty of Ltd watches is their exclusivity. Every style is on a limited run (hence the name) and no more than 150 copies are made in each colour – so you can own a virtually unique timepiece. Because the designs change so often it means new colours are constantly released, so there’s always plenty of choice for Ltd lovers! New colours to hit Shade Station are violet, green and red. Classic and Sleek – Michael Kors Watches

July 29, 2009
Posted by David

Michael Kors is renowned for his sophisticated and super chic fashion designs. On the catwalks for autumn 2009 we have seen his collections representing pieces which are simple yet glamorous. Unlike some designers which go for almost theatrical looks that only appropriate for the catwalk and not necessarily wearable for real-life, the Kors collection was extremely ready-to-wear, classic and sleek with a strong emphasis on sharp tailoring.

The same can be said for that of the designer’s new range of watches. Sleek, chic and feminine the watches look great season to season and the classic styling means that they bypass trends and will look great regardless of the current fashions. Like the new clothing line, Michael Kors watches are perfect for the office yet look fabulous when dressed up with a cocktail dress for an evening out.

Many Michael Kors watches use neutral colouring such as gold, cream and brown tones and some incorporate patterns on the bands or subtle jewelled embellishments. The range of timepieces have a rather soft yet unique look to them and are definitely considered one of the more refined style of watches making for a polished look that can be easily dressed up or down.

Many celebrities love the groomed and timeless Michael Kors style including Jennifer Lopez, Joan Allen and Jennifer Garner and many of his dresses have even been featured in films including Possession and Bandits. Keep looking out on the Shade Station site for exciting new additions to the wonderfully exquisite Michael Kors watch collection!

Whilst we’re half way through the summer and a number of the big festivals have been and gone, there’s still time to choose your perfect shades for the upcoming UK festivals. Still to come are; Global Gathering, Womad, The Big Chill, V Festival, Reading and Leeds, SW4, Get Loaded in the Park and Bestival. For every one, there’s a great pair of sunglasses to make you look and feel fabulous.

If you like your weekends sweaty, chaotic and hardcore, then dance festivals Global Gathering and Clapham’s SW4 and Get Loaded are for you. Accessorise your skinny jeans and vest with sunglasses in bright colours and retro styles. The original Ray Ban Wayfarers are enjoying an extended fashion moment and are currently the coolest shades to be seen in. Choose them in red or blue for the perfect dance festival look and to ensure protection from flashing strobe lights!

Carrera is another great brand to be seen in, worn by Beckham and Kylie, these retro aviator style sunglasses are super fashionable. We think the Carrera ‘Hot’ style or ‘Champion’ in tortoiseshell would be right on the money for dance festival chic.

Indie and rock kids who have bought their tickets to V or Reading will be swept away by Dragon’s ‘Fame’ style sunglasses or Von Zipper’s ‘Hoss’ shades. Both are a chunky retro-looking aviator style of glasses, that ooze savvy.

For some, a laid back vibe and world music is the order of the day – if this sounds like you, team your high-waisted jeans and trilby with sunglasses that give you a slightly more grown up air or glamour. Ray Ban’s Clubmaster shades lend an ultra cool nerdy chic or if you prefer a 70s look, opt for oversized swirling Pucci sunnies for ultimate glamorous revelry. Marc Jacobs does a sexy line in oversized shades perfect for lazy afternoon dancing or you may like an injection of vintage, with a pair of classic Christian Dior sunglasses from Shade Station’s brilliant ‘Vintage’ section.

Every fashionista knows how to work the ‘boyfriend look’ this season.  Creating a feminine silhouette with menswear is a massive trend and certainly not one to be overlooked. From low slung ‘boyfriend jeans’ and tailored over-sized jackets with the sleeves casually rolled up, to quiffs and brogues – rummaging through your boyfriend’s wardrobe is the easiest way to nail this summer’s laziest trend. But once you’ve liberated his jeans and teased your hair into a style Elvis would be proud of, why stop there? Swipe his watch too to complete the ‘look’!

You’re in luck if your other half has a penchant for flashy, geeky, space age looking watches. Particularly if it’s a Tokyo Flash watch. With flashing LEDs, unique displays and ‘space invader’ inspired designs these cutting edge timepieces are the ultimate way to accessorise your new look. The brains behind Tokyo Flash like to challenge the wearer somewhat, so before you take his watch without permission it may be wise to ask him exactly how you read it! Tokyo Flash wristwear embodies the advance of technology and innovation within interpretation of time, so throw any thoughts of traditional time telling out the window.

Once you’ve mastered the art of reading a Tokyo Flash watch, slap it on your wrist and consider yourself fully accessorised and totally ready to rock the ‘boyfriend look’. After all why should boys have all the fun?

Oakley Jawbone at the Tour de France

July 9, 2009
Posted by David

The Tour de France is always a great opportunity for sunglasses brands to showcase their latest models, and Oakley in particular is the popular favourite to be featured. For 2009 the new Oakley Jawbone has been spotted adorning the faces of riders including Lance Armstrong and Mark Cavendish. The high tech Jawbone frames definitely seem to be providing ultimate protection and function as Cavendish has now won two stages of the iconic race this week.

Oakley is renowned for always being the first to develop eyewear innovations and technologies. So what is so special about the Jawbone? These new Oakley frames are indeed the latest in style and technology as the lenses are interchangeable and sit into the frame in such a way that they are prevented from damage, bending and the optics remain the same allowing precise and accurate vision. The design of the Jawbone really is quite special; the rubbery nose pad is a hinged pivot that can turn up, releasing a clasp on the lower jaw of the frame. The frame swings out with ease allowing for removal and change of the lenses without causing fingerprints. This also allows the riders to adjust the lenses according to the natural light. Each set of glasses also come with an extra nosepiece as the hinge can be opened and replaced – the nosepads have a slight rise to them which provides a better and more comfortable fit for athletes with smaller and lower nose bridges.

A defining feature of the Jawbones are also the unusually thin arms which provide flexibility and prevent any pain over the various stress points creating a comfortable pair of frames for the riders. Of course, whilst these are the ultimate in eyewear technology they also look typically stylish and are available in eight colour options.

They certainly seem to be doing the trick in the current Tour de France so the three years spent developing the Oakley Jawbones was definitely time well spent. The sunglasses are proving very popular and successful for our British riders so far in the 2009 competition!

Wimbledon Celebrity Spotting!

July 8, 2009
Posted by David
Wimbledon 2009 has been a scorcher and this rare display of great British weather has given us a grand opportunity to see just which sunglasses the celebs favour.
The first day of the tournament saw Jude Law hanging out with actor Jonny Lee Miller and unsurprisingly both opted for traditional and stylish Ray Ban sunglasses, with Jude modelling Wayfarers and the Trainspotting actor in aviators. The same day Razorlight’s Jonny Borrell was also seen sporting his black Ray Ban Wayfarers whilst enjoying the tennis.
Wimbledon appeals to all ages and older fans including Sir Cliff Richards, Sir Trevor Macdonald, Sir Bobby Charlton, Bruce Forsyth, Rolf Harris and racing driver Jackie Stewart were seen cheering on their favourites this year. In the younger camp Aleesha Dixon was in attendance, as was Sam Mendes and his Oscar winning wife Kate Winslet, who watched Federer secure his place in the semi’s. Ewan Macgregor was seen cheering on fellow Scot, Andrew Murray and both Eddie Izzard and Noel Fielding were spotted in the crowd at SW19.

This year’s celebrity talking piece came in the form of Justin Timberlake who took time out of his schedule promoting his ‘William Rast’ clothing label to support Andy Roddick on Centre Court. Displaying his usual effortless laid back cool, JT accessorised with a flat cap and a pair of Wayfarer style sunglasses with a stylish navy coloured frames. International pop sensation Grace Jones also rocked Wimbledon wearing an outlandish hat and oversized black sunnies.
To score your own fashion ace in similar oversized sunglasses look to brands like Gucci, Prada, Pucci, D&G and Chanel for classic ’leading lady’ style.
