Be Dashing in Diesel. Diesel sunglasses.

March 30, 2009
Posted by David

Founded in 1978 by Renzo Rosso, the Diesel brand has since become one of the most popular brands in the fashion industry and is renowned for its laid back, cool, yet sharp image. Rosso and his team of designers always aspired to become fashion innovators as opposed to catching on to trends and are certainly that little bit more edgy than the norm. Diesel quickly became a fashion leader and hence, you will often see other brands trying to emulate the Diesel style. Their methods of manufacturing their products are based highly on quality control and therefore every item is as high quality as you can get, and of course, reflects a sense of unique individual style.

For summer 2009, Diesel has a range of fabulously fresh and creative frames and styles. The new polished black Diesel shades with the silver logo on the arms are extremely cool and are a little bit sporty yet ooze style with that high fashion essence. The silver sunglasses with tortoiseshell features are smart and sophisticated and something a little bit different. Diesel also have a fantastic selection of sportier wrap around styles, aviators and the classic frames.

The great thing about Diesel sunglasses is that the frames are unisex. In order for the same pair of shades to look great on both men and women, they have to be skilfully crafted and of a style that suits both genders. Diesel captures this balance perfectly. The brand is one of the key looks for many super cool celebrities such as the Beckhams, Beyonce, Brad Pitt, Paris Hilton and Matt Damon. Diesel sunglasses are a way of portraying your style, in a subtle way that makes a big fashion statement. It also shows you are a true style innovator and not a follower!

Pucci love. Pucci Sunglasses.

March 27, 2009

Pucci is a bit like marmite, you either love it or you hate it. Renowned for their swirling, colourful patterns, a Pucci print is an ’in yer face’, ‘take me as I am’ style statement for bold, confident women and men. Unlike other fashion houses whose designs are often hard to tell apart, Pucci is distinctive and instantly recognisable and this is it’s beauty and strength.

Often thought of as a summer, beachwear label, you may be surprised to hear that Pucci’s first foray into the fashion market was designing skiwear for image concious Europeans in the 1940s! By the Fifties Pucci was a household name and famous women of the time from movie stars like Sophia Loren to the style icon Jackie Kennedy were all seen sporting the Pucci pattern. Indeed Marilyn Monroe was buried in a Pucci dress.

From the Fifties to the present day, stylish, informed women have always chosen Pucci. Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson and Nicole Ritchie are all big fans of the print, as are a host of other A-listers who are often to be found shading their peepers from the sun with the latest Pucci models… these women include Elle Macpherson, Mandy Moore, Oprah Winfrey and Brooke Shields.

Almost always oversized, with a unique arm, sporting a slightly paired down version of the classic pattern and generally a coloured frame, Pucci shades look chic, elegant and sexy. Quite simply, I defy you not be smitten once you’ve set eyes on a pair of Pucci sunglasses, they’ve certainly stolen my heart!

Pretty in Prada

March 20, 2009

Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to own a pair of Prada sunnies. Prada has become synonymous with style, elegance and good taste. Never knowingly over the top or excessive, Prada is always on trend and rarely puts a foot wrong.

One of last years hottest celebrity sunglasses trends were Prada’s Butterfly shades. At one time or another most of Hollywoods A-list could be seen sporting them. Nicole Ritchie, a big sunglasses fan, spent most of the summer in hers as did Paris Hilton and actress turned singer turned Anglophile Juliette Lewis. This year’s collection is all about smooth curves and wide frames in black and royal purple. The perennially popular aviator also gets an update for 2009 with a double bridged nose and an unusually wide arm. Eva Longoria has already been seen in this 56IS aviator style this year. While we’re yet to predict which style will prove a hit with the fickle fashionistas, you can bet your bottom dollar Prada will be adorning many a celeb face this summer.

Although Prada pre dates The First World War, (it was founded in 1913) it didn’t really enjoy commercial success until Miuccia Prada took over the company reins in 1978 and even then it wasn’t an overnight wonder. Having laid the groundwork throughout the Eighties, Prada finally came into it’s own in the early Nineties with the explosion of celebrity voyeurism, when just about every media darling was seen in Prada’s elegant threads. The ball kept on rolling and in 1998 the company launched their own line of sunglasses, which have proved popular with celebrities and ‘civillians’ alike. For all of us who covet a Prada piece but can’t quite (ok, not even nearly) stretch to over a grand for an item of clothing, their collection of eye wear means we can all own a little of the dream.

The Carrera Comeback. Carrera Sunglasses.

March 18, 2009

The Carrera sunglasses brand is an example of a perfect collaboration between sport and style and is highly inspired the annual car race Carrera Panamericana that stretches across Mexico. As a brand Carrera aims to tell a story and the typical wearer is said to be adventurous, spontaneous and enthusiastic.

Indeed, originally intended for a specific sports purpose, Carrera sunglasses have transcended themselves into the fashion world and are regularly spotted adorning the faces of Hollywood’s biggest names in addition to the world’s finest athletes. The style is retro with a modern edge and the Carerra Champion Shades, for example, in white and red in one sense look incredibly chic a la aviator style but the colouring and distinct design of the frames definitely injects a cool sporty edge. Rapper T.I. made a huge impact when he donned a pair of Carrera Champion sunglasses in white at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, while Kanye West also allegedly paid $15,000 to get the latest Carrera collection before it went on sale in the United States.

Carerra shades were hugely popular in the 80’s and as 2009 is all about reviving old trends, particularly the 1980’s, this brand are racing their way to the forefront of the fashion industry. It was for this reason that Carrera decided to release their popular plastic-framed aviators in a variety of different colours. The retro frames are available in combination colours of white, blue, black, yellow, turquoise, white, and red, all with the trademark gradient lens.

The recent Carerra launch party held in New York was a huge success and saw stars such as Agyness Deyn, Richie Rich, Tyson Beckford, Daisy Lowe and Patricia Field. All the cool kids are rocking Carerra shades this season and when function and fashion come this good, it would be a shame not to jump on the bandwagon!

Desperate for Dior!

March 13, 2009

Christian Dior. As soon as I hear those two words I think glamour, beauty, luxury and sophistication. The brand, whose designer was one of the most influencial of the late 1940’s and 1950’s (and one of the most iconic of our time), is created for people who adore fashion and thus Dior sunglasses are made for the fashion conscious. They make a statement and proof to the fact that practicality can easily be combined with striking beauty.

The range of Dior sunglasses for 2009 is simply divine and of course complete with an array of frames, styles and lens tints. One of the new styles includes the Very Dior white to gold coloured frames which are quite retro in appearance and the complete essence of glamour. Think Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) style in The Devil Wears Prada! The new Dorita 2 pink and brown design is also fantastic and has a funkier edge as the colour is graduated. The brown tinted lenses also make for a very sophisticated 70’s feel. Of course, the classic frames including the plastic edge Stronger style are still as popular as ever and the brand perfectly carries its own unique flair within all the designs within the range.

Indeed, function is important when choosing a pair of sunglasses but let’s be honest, Dior shades in addition to function are also heavily geared towards the wonderful feeling of owning an iconic accessory and looking aesthetically beautiful. They certainly achieve that sense of satisfaction! Celebrities who love a touch of Dior include Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Heidi Montag and Angelina Jolie to name only a few. Christian Dior sunglasses are definitely the perfect fashion accessory for those who value style, looks and creating an impact.

Diggin’ Fossil

March 10, 2009
Posted by David

Fossil are perhaps best known for the quirky tins in which their branded wristwear is sold. These novel tins have created a buzz for Fossil since the company began repackaging their watches in 1989 – to such an extent that they almost threaten to overshadow the wristwear itself. The tins have become highly collectible and are traded in markets and antique shops around the world. The graphic design teams that create them have won countless awards and there’s even been a coffee table book published in the humble tin’s honour.

All this for a watch?! What is clear is that when you buy a Fossil watch you are entering into the history books and at the same time acquiring your very own collectible product from the get go!

Fossil watches have a vintage, irreverent style – designed with creativity and humour which extends throughout their collections. The company’s tag line is “What vintage are you?” pointing to the fact that the brand have a timepiece to suit everybody’s style and taste.

Not just a pretty (watch) face, or the sum of their tins (sorry!), Fossil have been approached by a number of big name luxury brands to create licensed watch lines for them. These include Adidas, Burberry, Diesel, DKNY, Armani, Michael Kors and Marc by Marc Jacob, all of whom Fossil now design, manufacture and distribute for. It is very apparent therefore that Fossil’s own watches are made by the very best in the business and are of the highest quality. This is further backed up by celebrity designer collaborations. Fossil’s current partnership with Philippe Starck, a media darling and the visionary designer who transformed major hotels across the globe is a coup for the brand and just goes to show how innovative and appealing Fossil watches really are.

Stylish Mr Kors

March 6, 2009
Posted by David

It appears that Michael Kors has every media angle covered… Having just displayed the goods for his acclaimed Autumn Collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in the Big Apple, mid Feb, he can also be found on the judging panel for the television show Project Runway and as a regular contributor for Harpers Bazaar where he’s interviewed various Hollywood stars including Liz Taylor.

He certainly likes to keep himself busy! Kors’s stellar career bears witness to this. From the launch of the label in 1981, the designer has had his foot on the accelerator right up to the present day.

Known for his chic, luxurious all-American sportswear, Michael Kors began with a simple women’s collection and now boasts a very successful men’s line, and a stunning accessories range incorporating everything from handbags and belts to eye wear and watches.
The Kors label is very much focused on the fashionable jet set, with advertising campaigns depicting models like Carmen Kass on Safari in Africa, boarding a plane and kicking back on a yacht. The designers appeal is not lost on the A-list and an endless, glittering list of celebs have been seen clothed in Michael Kors – Glamazons such as Charlize Theron, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Anjelica Huston to name just a few. He also has a number of film credits to his name, designing clothes for Rene Russo in the fabulous remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ and clothing Cate Blanchett for the little known movie ‘Bandits’.

Like his clothes, Michael Kors watches are classy, elegant and fit for the A-list whilst always remaining faithful to the company’s high class leisure ethos. This year’s pattern ‘a la mode’, tortoiseshell, is prevalent throughout his recent collection and unlike some conventional brands, Kors’ timepieces are fresh and totally novel. Michael Kors evidently likes to play with shapes and textures and he is on fine form, splashing bone and snakeskin, textured gold and diamante across the collection. There really is plenty to choose from and should you be conscientious enough to purchase one, you can be assured of having the nattiest wrist wear this side of the pond.
