Make Way For Welder

November 27, 2008
Posted by David

Welder is the most recent watch brand to be launched from Italian designer Italo Fontana who is most famous for designing the range of U-Boat watches. These new Welder watches ooze strength and personality, and have undergone intrinsic attention to design detail. Each watch features the highest quality industrial styling combined with the latest and greatest functionality.

These watches are indeed pricey as Fontana is typically renowned for his expensive price tags! With the price however, comes the range of absolute must have watches that are crafted to the highest measures, distinctive and really make a style statement about the wearer. The Welder watch range is similar to the U-Boat range in the sense that they feature the same oversized cases, and trademark left position crown and contrasting colours, but what makes Welder different is that they use Japanese Quartz movement. This is partly what makes them so sought after by the fashion conscious and of course, fashion experts.

What injects the extra pzazz to this brand is the use of sharp dimensions and fluorescent colours which create contrast to the watches themselves. One of the most popular with the Welder watches collection is the K25 Data range which encompasses everything you will need in a watch including chronograph movement, a stainless steel IPB treatment case, and a superimposed black dial.

If you are looking for something really special, this is definitely the brand to go for. Sophisticated, sharp and the best quality you will find in a timepiece. Let’s hope a dedicated female range is next to come!

French Fancy

November 24, 2008

Interior design buffs will be more than familiar with the name Philippe Starck. One of the most influential contemporary designers of the noughties era, Parisian-born artist Starck has wowed consumers with everything from super-sleek hotel designs to artefacts and interiors, and now he’s made his moved into the foray of watch-wear.

The son of an aircraft designer, Starck set up his first company in 1968 producing inflatable objects and since then, he’s continued to be influenced by the world of fashion and popular culture. To date, he’s created mineral-water bottles for Glacier, kitchen appliances for Alessi, luggage for Louis Vuitton and Samsonite and computer gadgets for Microscoft, as well as his most recent collaboration with Fossil watches.

Believing that all his products should be simple, efficient and durable – with stunning design and practicality, Starck’s watches are as far away from your traditional watch as you can get. Undeniably modernistic and striking to the eye, they all boast high-design features, but without taking anything away from the practicality of the watch, making them robust in both wear and stylishness. Offering men’s, women’s and unisex styles, choose from electroplated bracelet designs, cross shaped rubber cuff designs with digital time-telling and the O-Ring Digi watch to name a few. The latter, rather space-age style uses a see-through ring-shaped display, rather like a polo-mint to show the time with hours shown as numbers and minutes as segments. If a more standard-display watch tickles your fancy, there’s plenty of those too, although they still have one-off design elements guaranteeing your watch will still become the talk of the town.

Michael Kors watches are incredibly refined, distinctive and offer a beautiful range for ladies. What makes the brand so exquisite is the ability to make the manufacturing of the timepieces as discreet as possible, meaning that the watches are fantastically crafted and look aesthetically stunning. The watches are styled in such as way that they are elegant, sophisticated and classy, as great emphasis and care has been placed on the construction.

The range offers some fantastic tortoiseshell styles which add a bit of spark to the collection and something that many other designer brands do not seem to focus on. Tortoiseshell is great for jazzing up a plainer outfit such as a work suit and injects a bit of individuality. There is also a beautiful and delicate bracelet style watch in the collection which is wonderfully feminine. The watches are coloured in creamy and brown tones meaning they are versatile yet very unique.

These ladies are the perfect example of the type of female the watches are geared towards – classic, distinctive and confident in their own style.

Keep your eye on the time because DKNY are winding their watches forward and going all futuristic on us. Their latest release of Autumn / Winter wristwear certainly has the midas touch, effortlessly continuing the super-chic trend of mix and match metals. Pairing shiny silver with matte gold and vice versa, the glitzy designs are perfect for the party season.

Proving they’ve still got their fingers firmly on the fashion pulse, almost 14 years after Donna Karan and her hubby launched the brand, they’re still leading the way in the style stakes, with their accessories providing everyone with the ability to buy into the brand. Introduced onto the market at the start of the noughties DKNY watches have become firm favourites with stylish men and women all over the world, with the celebrity market tapping into the trends too.

Continuing to stamp her mark on the designs, the latest range (alongside the polished pieces) sees the letter D being used as a watch face – a subtle way for consumers to acknowledge they’re wearing a designer piece. However, if you prefer to be less discreet about showing off your designer credentials, you’ll be pleased to see that the winter accessories range has the brand detailing stamped all over it – literally. With logos emblazoned on high polished rings, bracelets and id-style neck-chains, no-one will ever forget where their bejewelled beauties are from. Chain-link pieces and silver charm bracelets complete the new collection – all of which would fit neatly inside Santa’s stocking, what a great excuse to start your gift-buying early.
