Timex Originals watches are a brand of vintage inspired watches that have been launched to honour and celebrate Timex’s 156-year heritage of watch making.

The history of Timex dates back to 1854 which marked the creation of the Waterbury Watch Company. The Waterbury Watch Company was responsible for producing the first affordable watches for Americans during the 1850's and became prominent in the 1930's with their Mickey Mouse watches and clocks that were retailed at approximately £1.50. However, when the Great Depression hit America in the 1940's, the Waterbury Watch Company was bought out by the U.S. Time Company from which Timex was founded.
The first Timex watches were launched in 1950 and boasted highly reliable movements and flawless timing. Timex enjoyed a huge volume of sales which was also boosted by advertising in the print media and on television. The most famous ad line for Timex is ‘takes a licking and keep on ticking’ which is still heavily associated with Timex today. By the end of the 1950’s, one of every three watches purchased in the United States was a Timex model.
The success of Timex continued over the next three decades and Timex remained a household name; renowned for its excellence, affordability and reliability and the brand subsequently sold over 500 million mechanical watches. Recognising that in order to sustain its reputation however, Timex needed to stay ahead or at least keep in line with technical evolution and therefore in the 1980’s Timex introduced a range of new digital watches named the ‘Ironman Triathlon’ line which was geared towards sports enthusiast and athletes. The Ironman watches soon became the country's best selling watch. Over the next twenty years, Timex continued to produce excellent watches that fused practical yet attractive styling with technical innovation. New features included electroluminescent watch faces which are still incorporated in Timex watches today in the form of an Indiglo night light. Other digital Timex watches were launched during the 1990’s, including Data Link; a mini data bank for scheduling information and phone numbers. Timex also collaborated with Microsoft and Motorola to produce a range of other innovative watches and pagers.
New Timex models include smart watches with multi-functions which are great for sports and workouts, fun and vibrantly coloured watches, watches to help monitor heart and pulse rates, sports watches that include speed and distance calculations, and e-Instruments watches that measure factors including the temperature of the surf and can predict tide times.
Timex Originals are a collection of vintage inspired watches, designed to honour and celebrate Timex’s 156-year heritage. The various watches within the collection are heavily inspired by the watches that have been launched throughout Timex’s timeline and aim to describe the Timex story through design, ultimately conveying the message that ‘It’s not original unless it’s a Timex’.
The Timex Originals collection comprises of a number of iconic designs.
T Series 1900s
The Series 1900s Timex Originals watches capture the look and style of the original 1900s Timex dial. The brown dial with burnt gold numerals is reflective of the past, whilst the contemporary mother of pearl colour tone provides a modern twist to the collection as does the use of distressed leather straps or the signature herringbone expander bracelet straps. These watches have been tumbled and each design has a time worn finish to enhance the vintage look. This also means that no two tumbled watches are the same and adds to the completely unique appeal of Timex Originals watches. Further modern technical additions include the trademark Timex Indiglo night-light and water resistance up to 50M.
T Series 1940s
This series has been designed in keeping with the 1940s Timex watches and features a solid stainless steel case and the original 24 hour Timex dial. The aesthetic of the watch has been infused with modern additions including the use of muted colours such as military green, medic white and air force blue and incorporates canvas straps or signature herringbone expander bracelet straps. These watches have also been tumbled and each design has a time worn finish to enhance the vintage look. This also means that no two tumbled watches will be the same and adds to the completely unique appeal. Further modern technical additions include the trademark Timex Indiglo night-light and water resistance up to 50M.
T Series 1950s
The 1950s T Series incorporates bright and vibrant colours which are further enhanced with bold, clean and sleek white dials. The Classic Easy Reader dials presented in solid stainless steel cases have also been styled with added colour in some versions including purple, red and black, with some designs featuring canvas straps or signature herringbone expander bracelet straps. Again, these watches have been tumbled and each design has a time worn finish to enhance the vintage look. Further modern technical additions include the trademark Timex Indiglo night-light and water resistance up to 50M.
T Series 1970s
The 1970s T Series reflects the new age of quartz in the watch industry and the designs are therefore representative of that cool avant-garde vibe and boasting fine attention to detail; particularly within the dials. The solid stainless steel case is complimented by highly polished dial accents and striking and exquisite colours of blue, black and sunray silver. The varying types of straps include rich pebble grain leather or signature herringbone expander bracelet straps. Like many Timex Originals watches, these designs have been tumbled and each design has a time worn finish to enhance the vintage look. This also means that no two tumbled watches will be the same and adds to the completely unique touch. Further modern technical additions include the trademark Timex Indiglo night-light and water resistance up to 50M.
Reissue 1970s
The Re-issue Timex Originals watches are a highly similar reintroduction of a 1970s iconic Timex watch design but with a dial that has been reworked with contemporary additions. The soft cushion case in solid stainless steel is highly polished to add an extra sleek finish and also compliments the intricately detailed original dial design. The straps include rich pebble grain leather options or polished signature herringbone expander bracelet straps. A great vintage inspired piece that also has the advantage of modern additions including the Timex Indiglo night-light and water resistance up to 50M.
It is the extremely close attention to intrinsic detail that makes Timex Originals watches a truly unique brand. Whilst remaining undoubtedly recognisable as old-school Timex watches but with the modern style additions and technologies, Timex Originals watches perfectly fuse the essence of the old and new.
