The man behind Ted Baker is Raymond Stuart Kelvin who was born in 1955 in North London. In 1988, Kelvin opened his first clothing shop in Glasgow and decided to name it Ted Baker. It was just two years later in 1990 that Kelvin bought a store in Covent Garden, and by 1992 had stores in Soho, London, Leeds and Nottingham. Ted Baker launched a line of women’s clothing in 1995 and soon after, the Teddy Boy collection was introduced – a line for boys between the ages of five and twelve.
