The founder of the Pucci brand was Marchese Emilio Pucci di Barsento who was born in 1914 in Naples, Italy and the son of a highly wealthy aristocrat. Pucci enjoyed a privileged upbringing and became an avid skier and scholar, earning his PhD in Political Science and joining the Italian Olympic ski team in 1934. In 1935, Pucci was awarded a skiing scholarship and attended university in the United States where he also found an interest in designing sportswear for his ski team. When the Second World began, Pucci served for many years as a pilot for the Italian Air Force but was forced to return to Italy due to health problems that prevented him from flying.

However once he was home, it was at this point that his career in fashion design began to take form. When skiing one day on the slopes of St. Moritz, a reporter from Harper's Bazaar noticed Pucci and his outfit which he had designed himself. The unique and vibrant designs caught the attention of the main editor who then invited Pucci to design some pieces for a photo session on winter fashion. The designs were featured in the winter 1948 issue of Harper's Bazaar and the Pucci style was unveiled to the fashion industry.
In 1949, Pucci opened his first shop in Capri, and by 1950 he had created his first couture line of clothing of which he presented in France. Other designers were typically creating muted toned suits made using heavy fabrics whereas Pucci in direct contrast was incorporating bold, vivid, and colourful clashing prints on lightweight materials. This is ultimately what still makes the Pucci brand instantly distinctive in fashion and couture today and especially made his eclectic creations stand out from the other designers of his time.
Once the House of Pucci was established, Pucci sold an incredible array of casual wear which comprised of Capri pants, silk dresses, scarves, jumpsuits, and pyjamas. One of Pucci’s most popular creations is the printed silk dress which was favoured at the time and is still loved today for its lightweight material and the fact that it doesn’t crease. Many wealthy ‘jet-setting’ ladies opted for Pucci dresses and garments as many variations could be packed into a single bag. The dresses also flattered the figure, moving with the curves of the body and were versatile enough to wear during the day in addition to a glamorous evening out. The Pucci brand had become incredibly sought after and popular within the fash pack of the time – iconic ladies including Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Jacqueline Kennedy were all seen adorned in Pucci clothing.
It is no surprise that Pucci won awards for his innovative and highly unique style including two from Neiman-Marcus in 1954 and in 1967 which he was awarded for ‘distinguished service’ in the field of fashion. In the late 1960's, Pucci was also elected into the Italian Parliament. The designer was a respected and well known fascist and renowned for his written pieces outlining his political views.
Emilio Pucci continued to act as head designer for the House of Pucci until his death in 1992. In 2002 French designer Christian Lacroix was named Artistic Director, and today Norwegian designer Peter Dundas heads up the Pucci brand.
The eclectic Pucci print is still a firm and prominent favourite on the high fashion scene and is synonymous with glamour and a jet-setting lifestyle with celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley and Nicole Ritchie often seen wearing Pucci attire and accessories.
Sunglasses are one of the latest additions to the Pucci brand and in keeping with the range of clothing and accessories, are vibrant, colourful and immediately distinctive to Pucci. Many Pucci sunglasses are oversized with varying style frames ranging from slim and demure to wide and retro inspired with oval shaped lenses. There are also some visor styles and oversized aviators in the collection.
The colours used in Pucci sunglasses, designed specifically for ladies are bold and strong and incorporate the statement swirling, psychedelic Pucci print. The tones range from deep red and orange though to vivid turquoise, blue, pink and purple. Some colours are combined in a typically clashing and abstract fashion but never fail to look undoubtedly stylish, feminine and elegant. If you prefer something a little more understated there are also many Pucci sunglasses that use neutral or classic tones and keep the vibrant detailing minimal but still elegant in the Pucci fashion. The Pucci print is often featured either on the main section of the frame or arms and sometimes both. Otherwise it may also be displayed on the frame and arm interior. High detailing is a common theme in the collection of Pucci sunglasses and therefore many styles incorporate detailing on the arm and hinge in the form of the striking Pucci pattern or a knot design for example, which adds interest and femininity to the overall shape and aesthetic of the sunglasses.
Pucci sunglasses are designed to be noticed and convey an ultra feminine and eclectic sense of style that shows you embrace the essence of colour, pattern, elegance and glamour into your look. Pucci is associated with an array of iconic style figures and celebrities and Pucci sunglasses are one of the most coveted items that should exist in every fashionistas collection! The Pucci print is a significant and key piece in couture of today and will continue to remain so for many years to come. Pucci sunglasses are regarded as a superb fashion investment and the perfect way to add that exquisite Pucci style to your look.
