The designer Marc Jacobs has become quite the icon in the fashion industry. Renowned for his elegant and ultra chic collections and vibrant personality, he is always a firm favourite at Fashion Week and adored by a number of style icons and A List celebrities.

Marc Jacobs was born in New York and grew up with his mother, sister and younger brother. At fifteen he got his first job at a boutique named Charivari which was incredibly avant-garde and gave the young fashion enthusiast his first taste of the industry. It was after working here that spurred him to apply to the renowned Parsons School for Design in New York where he was accepted. His talents as a designer quickly blossomed and during his time at Parsons, Jacobs won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award in 1984 and in the same year was also awarded the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award in addition to Design Student of the Year Award.
Whilst he was still studying at Parsons, Jacobs was keen to begin his fashion career and began designing and selling his own line of knitwear. He designed his first collection for Reuben Thomas, Inc., under the Sketchbook label which was highly successful. After graduating from Parsons, Jacobs began to design at Perry Ellis where he made his first real impact on the fashion scene after designing a grunge style collection, which in turn, actually led to his dismissal from the company in 1993. Eager to move forward, Jacobs joined forces with fellow designer Robert Duffy and the design duo formed Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc which gave Jacobs the creative freedom and independence to design the types of garments that he thought would be popular in the current fashion industry. In 1986, backed by Onward Kashiyama USA, Inc., Jacobs designed his first collection as a solo designer and the Marc Jacobs label was born. In 1987 Jacobs was the youngest designer to have ever been awarded the fashion industry's highest accolade; The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent.
In 1992, Jacobs was also awarded the highly prestigious Women's Designer of the Year Award and in 1994 he produced his first full collection of menswear. In 1997, Jacobs was appointed Creative Director of luxury French fashion house, Louis Vuitton, where he was responsible for designing the label’s first ready-to-wear line. Throughout his time at Louis Vuitton, Jacobs has collaborated with a number of artists and celebrities for the collections including Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince and Kanye West.
In addition to his great talent as a designer, Jacobs is renowned for his vibrant personality and is very much a fixture on the celebrity scene with his Fashion Week catwalk shows always attracting support from a number of his celebrity friends and style icons including Lady Gaga and Madonna. The themes of the designer’s collections take inspiration from the 1940’s through to the 1980’s and his garments are chic and elegant; creating a sense of mystery about the wearer and are sexy but in a more demure, subtle and intriguing fashion.
In addition to his design work and character, Jacobs is also very famous for his bold advertising campaigns which stand out mainly due to the people that feature in them. Child actress Dakota Fanning is one classic example whereby the ad comprised of shrunk clothes and shoes made in children’s sizes, with another ad featuring a naked Victoria Beckham inside a Marc Jacobs bag.
The Marc Jacobs collections are ultra stylish but certainly come with a high-end price tag and are therefore inaccessible to many people. To appeal and become more available to a wider target audience, Jacobs decided to launch his diffusion line; Marc by Marc Jacobs, which reflects the same chic Marc Jacobs style but with a lower price tag. This line is also less ‘serious’ than his main line and very reflective of the designer’s quirky personality and light-hearted attitude towards fashion.
The collection of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses are the perfect representation of the designer’s fun approach to fashion. The styles are unisex and are available in a variety of frame designs including aviator inspired, oversized and cat-eye frames, in addition to more unique shapes with strong and defined angles for an ultra contemporary finish.
Colour and pattern is a prominent feature within the Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses collection. Some designs incorporate an amalgamation of vivid and vibrant colours whereas others are still colourful, but more subtle and demure yet still possess that distinctive Marc Jacobs edge. A selection of sunglasses within the collection even feature star patterns for a wildly statement finish! In direct contrast, others are understated in classic tones such as black and brown, meaning that there is something to appeal to an array of style tastes.
The Marc by Marc Jacobs brand logo is often featured on the arm of the sunglasses. Some logos are bolder and more daringly and elaborately displayed depending on the specific design of the frame.
A pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses can be the perfect way of expressing your unique sense of style, as the variety of colours, patterns and frame designs available truly allow you to be as overstated or as subtle as you wish. Marc Jacobs is one of the most iconic designers of our time and what makes him unique is that he dares to be different, but still consistently fashion forward and undoubtedly stylish, which is certainly reflected in the collection of Marc by Marc sunglasses. The range is timelessly fashionable and will instantly add an element of spark to any look!
