Casio is a perfect example of a brand that embodies innovation and invention. It is also a watch company that didn’t begin with watches as its focal product, yet today the brand is responsible for creating some of the most technically advanced watches in the industry alongside some of the most stylish ones which has led to Casio becoming a firm favourite in the fashion industry and on the style scene.
A man named Kashio Todao founded the Casio back in 1946 and the company was originally named Kashio Seisakujo. The brand’s first product was a ring mounted cigarette holder which was launched quickly after the brand was founded and was very successful. Wanting to build upon his initial success with this first product, Todao then joined forces with his brothers and set about designing and manufacturing the world’s first electronic calculator in 1949.
A great deal of research, time and development was invested into creating the electronic calculator and it took eight years for the brothers to be completely happy with their product. They began marketing the calculator in 1957, which was named the Casio 14-A. The calculator was extremely innovative and like nothing the world had seen before. Ultimately, it was the first electronic calculator with the defining features being a ten digit keypad, and the first to display the numbers on one screen.
The electronic calculator was highly successful in Japan and over the next decade, further innovative products led to the brand becoming a world renowned company. By this time, the company name had changed to Casio and in 1964 the company developed Japan’s first desktop calculator which was launched in the United States, Canada and Europe. In 1972 Casio released the first scientific calculator and the first personal hand held model.
It was in 1974 that Casio wanted to expand on their product lines in order to branch out and also to maximise their profits. This is when they embarked on designing and manufacturing watches. The first Casio watch was named the Casiotron Electronic wrist watch and in 1983 Casio was responsible for launching the first shock resistant and digital diary watch.
Since then, Casio has continued to roll out an array of watches; all of which are innovative, functional and accessible from a price perspective which is also what makes them a favourite all around the world.
There are a number of Casio watches to choose from in the latest collection so whether you are trend focused, sporty or simply require a watch that boasts superior function, there is a model within the Casio range to fulfil every watch need. The brand has also recognised that style and an attractive aesthetic is important to many consumers and therefore Casio has tapped into the fashion and style element with some Casio watches boasting sleek looks with retro inspired qualities including chunky gold plated stainless steel bracelet straps, rose gold plated stainless steel straps and polished stainless steel straps.
Casio has also incorporated the key trend of colour in some designs, with many Casio watches featuring rubber straps in vibrant colours including orange, pink and yellow. A selection of some of the more elite Casio watches are more focused on cutting edge functional abilities and include features such as a thermometer, a world time display, a full auto calendar and a neobrite luminous coating which provides long-term illumination in the dark after only a short exposure to light. These highly innovative Casio watches also look incredibly statement and stylish with bold and aggressive aesthetics.
Casio has a significant history in the electronic and watch industry and is not only renowned and respected for its technically advanced products, but also for its superb quality in terms of manufacturing, materials and watch reliability. The brand is continually evolving and in its recent collections has incorporated the trend factor into the watch designs, meaning that now your watch can boast sleek, vibrant style in addition to the Casio innovation that has made the brand so iconic.
