Armani is highly regarded as one of the most prominent and sophisticated designer labels of our time and depicts the essence of true, sophisticated Italian style. The founder of the Armani brand is Giorgio Armani who was born in Piacenza in Italy in 1934 and today is one of the most iconic and influential designers in the fashion industry.  However, primarily Armani did not have his sights set on fashion as was pursuing a career in medicine following studying at Milan University. It was merely during a work stint in the 1960’s that Armani realised his passion for fashion.

Following his military service, Armani became a window dresser at a large Milanese department store called La Rinascente. Armani claims that it was regular trips to the United Kingdom that inspired his love of a classic style. When in the UK, he saw how vibrant yellow cardigans in a small boutique were used to inject a sense of luxury into the outfits and portrayed a unique, elite and incredibly British style. Armani brought the yellow cardigans back to La Rinascente and which were subject to much disapproval but they sold quickly and proved a sure hit with the clientele.
In 1964, Armani had increased his knowledge fabric and design and was employed as a designer for Nino Cerruti's, then Ungaro and finally Zegna. In 1974, Armani decided to venture out as an independent designer and introduced his own menswear label. His first womenswear collection was to follow just a year later. Armani had the objective of designing classic inspired clothing that were of a fine cut and quality and could be worn and would look fantastic on everyday people.
Since 1975, the Armani design empire has grown and is now favoured on a global scale; considered highly elite and sought after. Other labels by Armani include Giorgio Armani Junior, Underwear, Swimwear and Accessories (which now include Armani sunglasses). Wanting to make the brand more accessible but still retain that elite ‘designer’ image, Armani also opened a series of stores which retailed his less expensive diffusion lines including Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans.
Testament to his success, in the year 2000, Forbes confirmed that Giorgio Armani to be the world's most successful designer, with personal earnings of $135 million in 1999.
Despite been loved by a whole host of glamorous celebrities and style icons including actresses Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway and singers Beyonce and Lady Gaga to name only a few, Armani has always remained true to his original vision that his designs and fashion are based on everyday people, believing that clothes should be made to be worn and not just seen on the catwalks. He used his first menswear collection as a foundation on which to base his contemporary clothing designs for women and in the 1980’s Armani was the designer to really bring the ladies Power Suit into fashion! Today, the Armani brand has become softer, versatile, elegant and understated meaning that his clothes are highly wearable, stylish and functional.
Armani sunglasses are a core part of the Armani accessories collection and like the range of attire; Armani has designed his sunglasses to be wearable and versatile but still boasting incredibly striking and luxurious style. With an array of sharp and sleek designs for men and women in addition to a number of unisex models, the classic styling of Armani sunglasses allows the unisex designs to look equally chic and sophisticated on men and women.
