Whilst the recession has hit retailers hard, Superdry appears to be bucking this unfortunate trend. Sales reports over the Christmas period showed a massive growth and in January 2009 Superdry enjoyed a 31% year on year increase for the month! Retail experts believe Superdry's success to be attributed to the fact they are a niche brand and as such have cornered the market in what they do. Unlike other high street retailers Superdry has enjoyed enormous success since it's creation and has the legs to just keep on going. The company has no debts to speak of, has never held a sale and is expanding steadily across the UK and abroad. To date Superdry is sold globally in 22 countries. In addition, where other brands use and pay high profile names to wear and advertise their clothes, Superdry remains unique in that celebrities wear their garments because they like them, not because they are paid to do so.
Superdry clothes sell themselves. The company has no requirement to pay people in the public eye to wear their goods. Although, naturally it helps the brand enormously when a celebrity is pictured wearing an item of Superdry clothing. David Beckham is a big fan of the label. He has been spotted wearing his Superdry 'Brad' black leather jacket regularly and also a blue Superdry 'Osaka 6' t-shirt. The fact is, Beckham likes Superdry and because he wears the label out of choice, this helps spread the cult of Superdry and its popularity. Other high profile celebrities who wear Superdry include Kate Moss, High School Musical star Zac Efron, Lindsey Lohan and Jude Law.
