Police Watches - When The Brand Began

Please visit the style blog for the latest articles.

The Police brand was born in the early Eighties when sunglasses were becoming more than just a bland accessory, when yuppie heaven was in its infancy and when the fitness boom began emerging. All these factors and more shaped the young Italian brand and it aspired for greatness within the excesses of the 1980s.

Police Watches - The Time Line

Police prides itself on being unique and as with all Italian design houses, aesthetically pleasing. Predicting and playing with the most up to date trends of the time, Police has styled itself as a major fashion icon. From blue-mirrored lenses in the early Nineties, which started a global phenomenon, to the wrap around shades of David Beckham and the cool aviators George Clooney wore, Police are leaders and innovators. The Police style is for confident individuals, with an innate sense of style who are not afraid of standing out from the crowd. In 2003 Police added wrist wear to their expanding lifestyle label. Designed for 'trendy non-conformists', Police watches are for style conscious men and women who want to keep 'their own time with Police time'.

Police Watches - The Stars

Police are well known for using massive global superstars in their marketing campaigns. The list is a who's who of Hollywood glitterati (with the addition of a little home-grown British talent!) The first big movie star to appear in Police advertising was Die Hard star Bruce Willis. He represented the brand from 1999 to 2001 and in 2001 handed the reins to George Cooney who spent a year doing his Police duty. In 2003 it was international footballer David Beckham's turn. Already a sporting superstar and synonymous with fashion and style, Beckham was a great choice for the Italian label and he remained a spokesperson for Police sunglasses until 2007. At this point Police drafted in Antonio Banderas, the Spanish actor and star of Evita and Mask of Zorro. Having all these well known personalities represent Police had a massive global effect for the brand and over the past ten years their marketing campaigns have stirred huge interest in both men and women. It was a clever ploy using these particular stars, whilst they are all macho and appealing to men, they are also particularly desirable to women and thus piqued interest in both sexes on equal levels.

Police Watches - Keeping Police Time

Police watches are easy on the eye, with a bit of brawn and intelligence, just like the men who advertise them. Names given to the watches like 'patrol' 'alert', 'pursuit', 'rogue', 'trooper' and 'outlaw' only add to the Police appeal. All timepieces have analogue timing and are meaty. Their wrist wear is the type you'd see someone like Bruce Willis wearing, as he defuses a giant bomb and saves the day or Daniel Craig as a modern day James Bond cracking enemy intelligence and saving the girl. In short, their watches are tough, classy and thoroughly seductive. If you're a man who likes to give good wrist appeal, we'd highly recommend Police watches and if you're a lady, well we have plenty of choice for you too! Not nearly as chunky as the boys wristwear, our ladies Police watch range will still give you a grrrrl power edge and will separate the ladies who lunch from those that like a little more action. At Shade Station we stock a massive variety of watches and sunglasses from names like Ted Baker, Adidas, Tom Ford, Guess, Nixon and Ray Ban.
